Tape + Facial Hair?

Post by S-Dubya » Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:22 am

Anyone here have facial hair and taping their mouth shut? I really like my goatee (so does the wife), but I love my Activa too.

Suggestions? Instructions?

Thanks

I taped over my facial hair OK. I use the 3M transpore tape. Just use a piece that is wider than your moustache and tape over the lips, hair, and out to the skin. I also use a strap around my mouth to help with blowfish.

Fold one end over to give yourself a "tab" to grab hold of to remove the tape.

To add to Jeff's suggestions, when you remove the tape in the morning, make sure you pull downwards on it. That will help to relieve some of the discomfort. In addition, if you find that it's just too painful or uncomfortable, wamr/hot water will also help to remove it with little to no discomfort.

I tape every night -- have full beard and mustache

I use 2 inch wide tape -- 3M called Blenderm. However, I don't use a
PAP machine. I use a TAP-T dental device. When recording at a pressure
of 6 on either a PB 402e or a VPAP III, I get a AHI score below 2 every
night as verified with both the SilverLining and Autoscan software
when wearing a Dental Device. My prescription from the Doctor is 17 over 13.
All my symptoms of Anxiety, Panic attacks, high blood pressure, morning
headaches, and ED disappeared with three weeks of using the Dental Device.
My Sleep Doctor says Dental Devices are quackery. My friends who have
sleep apnea say that I will get serious TMJ and my teeth will all fall out.
I have used the Dental Device for over one year, so I guess it takes some
time before these things happen. I tape to force myself to breathe
through my nose so my mouth doesn't dry out. Unfortunately I don't seem
to fall asleep without Melatonin, so now I am stuck taking 1 mg before
bed. I have found that also taking some calcium carbonate and magnesium
before bed helps me to sleep better.

Here it is, the tale of the tape.

After much debating and trepidation about whether or not to tape my mouth to allow me to continue using my beloved Activa I gave it a go last night.

I found the paper tape at Walgreens and saved a $1 by buying the Walgreens brand. The real trick to making it work was extending the tape about 3/4 - 1" beyond the corners of my mouth. Even with my goatee it worked very well.

A little before 5:00am today I woke up with a tiny leak near the corner of my mouth and my nose was a little stuffy. It wasn't too bad because I get up at 5:15 anyway. I had a good night's sleep and I am happy to be using my Activa again.

Thanks guys!
