Adaptive Flow Hybrid Mask

Post by cpapnewby » Fri Jan 19, 2007 2:55 pm

Has anyone heard about the new Adaptive Flow on the Hybrid mask???

My DME told me that the sales rep came by and showed him this new Hybrid. Apparently, it matches better to the machine. I'm scheduled to get fitted next week and he told me that he should have some of these new Hybrids in stock by then and that they come with the latest headstraps.

Yes, just put a toothpick in one of the exhaust ports, and you have one
that works on a ResMed xPAP with the UMFF leak setting. Or better yet, buy a
RemStar..Note: I'm still upset about ResMed's new internet policy.

Remember, I'm not a medical professional. Furthermore, toothpicks and
xPAP machines are very dangerous..Don't try this at home..

+ Aussie heated hose.

new Hybrid

Post by patbringer » Mon Jan 22, 2007 2:35 pm

My sleep lab got some samples of this new Hybrid and they gave me 1 to take home....It seems like this new Hybrid is putting more fresh air into my nares than the earlier version. I was already happy with the generous flow of fresh air, now this is even better!

I had gotten the new headgear a few weeks back when I called the Innomed customer service and requested. The more I use it, the better I'm liking this new headgear. The buckle on the overheadstrap has made it so easy to adjust.

Cheers!

Pat

Pat,

Can you tell us what the difference is in the new design? Any pictures?

Thanks!

Visually it is hard to tell much of a difference (except the headgear). The sleep tech showed me the exhaust holes on the new and the old version and the holes on the newer version had a different profile (size and depth) but you have to look very carefully to see the differences.....

One thing I definitely noticed in the manual is that the graph of the passive leak rate vs pressure is very different on the new one compared to the old one.....

Cheers!

Pat

Does anyone have a picture of the adaptive flow hybrid thing that is out now? I had heard they were testing new shells about 6 months ago and called respcare about getting one to try. They had already sent out all their beta samples and told me I would have to wait until it came out on the market. The tech there told me the new shell adjusts to the different machines without compromising the higher C02 flush (or something). I would really like to see one.

Here is what the product manager at Teleflex Medical just sent to me:
Regarding your question, the Hybrid design now includes Adaptive Flow
exhalation ports. This technology optimizes the flow through the
exhalation ports resulting in maximum compatibility with different CPAP,
Bi-Level, and Auto set and sleep diagnostic systems and minimum CO2
retention in the mask. The look and feel of the Hybrid is exactly the
same, and there is little to no visible difference in the product. The
only change will be at the exhalation port site.

This modification virtually eliminates any false leak/mask fit alarms
that an autopap machine may give and increases the efficiency of
pressure transfer to the upper airway.
I am not sure it explains much, other than the only change is the exhalation ports...

I think I'll plug one of the holes tonight, and see if I can tell the difference
between 40 LPM and 48 LPM.

The new Hybrid headgear is great, and cpap-dot-com has them for sale.
However, since it has the same part number as the old, you must request (new, grey) at time of order.
This new headgear is even better than the thick, black "free trial" units they were sending out late last summer.

+ Aussie heated hose.

Does anyone know where I can buy the new Hybrid (with the improved airflow and headgear) online? I have a cold so I need to order a full face mask. I've already tried the Ultra Mirage ff mask and it made my apneas even worse than in my diagnostic sleep study so I'm afraid to use similar sleep masks. The Hybrid is maybe different enough to work but I sure hate to spend so much money on something that's going to be obsolete in a few days or weeks. I already checked with cpap.com and they haven't heard anything about an improved airflow version although they do seem to have the new head gear.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have emailed the product manager about the differences in masks. She stated that there is really no reason to upgrade if the current mask works with my machine. I have a remstar auto (tank version), same as you, and don't have any problems. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the old version.

Thanks so much for the quick help, Sleepless. I'm going to go ahead and order the mask through cpap.com.

I was told the same and since I'm not using the Resmed unit anymore, I should just use the old shell without adaptive flow. What the new shell's do is allow you to use Resmed's stuff without false readings or alarms.

Do, however , ask for the new grey headgear! It is the MUST HAVE of the season. If you haven't tried the Hybrid with this new headgear , you are in for treat because it virtually eliminates leaks.

Which leaks did the new headgear eliminate. I had problems with leaks at the corner of my mouth, despite using the "improved" (better velcro, not grey) headgear and the plastic part with the smaller exhaust holes. Do you think the grey headgear would solve the corner mouth leak problem?

the leak on the left side of my mouth is gone and the left pillow had to be moved 2 or 3 times a night. No more. The Hybrid fits like it was made for my face now.
I loved the mask even with the leaks I would have to fix and now I feel like it was made for me. The grey headgear makes a huge difference.

Bravo, Respcare.
