Discontinued products

Post by gregnga » Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:10 am

I was told by my sleep doctor that Respironics was going to discontinue non M series models. This could make parts hard to get, according to him. Of course, they like to set patients up with ResMed products, so maybe there is an ulterior motive.

Yes, it is true. Respironics has discontinued the "classic" RemStar series in favor of the RemStar M series machines at the end of 2006. I'm not seeing any good "sales" on any of the "classic" RemStars so I assume there is still a pretty good inventory of them out there and the same would hold true for parts and accessories, some of which can be interchangeable w/the M series. I wouldn't panic about it. Especially if you are insured as even if it hasn't been 5 years since the purchase of your machine, if your current machine goes kaput and can't be repaired insurance would have to replace it w/a new one. And if your current machine is less than 2 years old I think all RemStars come w/a 2 year warranty.

I'll believe this when I see it. (as in when CPAP.COM makes an announcement or it disappears from their price list)
I've noticed from many posts that the VA is issuing the Pro 2 machines to its patients.
I've also noticed that more and more DMEs seem to be pushing the ResMad machines.......Hmmmmm.

With all of the machines from that generation out in circulation, I'm sure they've got a huge inventory of parts.

Best wishes,

Den

Den, the announcement that Respironics had discontinued production of the "classic" RemStars arrived in a newsletter from an online DME supplier.

They discontinued production of 2006 Fords & Chebys, but you will be able to get factory parts to repair them for the next ten years, and aftermarkit parts for nuch longer.

A XPAP has a lifespan of five years maybe, and a warrenty of two years.
That fine ResBed they are trying to push off on you, won't last any longer or have parts avaiable, any longer than the Remstar Classic Tank. All things change, just not always for the better, they just change for the Profit. Jim

In my experience most CPAP machines have to be out of production for 10 plus years before the parts are difficult to obtain.
