Need Remstar auto clinician's manuals.

Post by Gil » Mon Feb 28, 2005 9:35 am

I have been on a CPAP fro 4 month and have just got a Remstar auto with C-Flex. So far I love it. But the DME would not give me the clinician's manual. Because I am convinced that the DME cares more about Medicare then they do my health. I know how to get in to set up but would still like to get a Remstar auto clinician's manual to make sure I am understanding the whole picture. If someone would have a copy scaned in to the computer and could e mail me a copy I would appreciate it.
I can open attachments in WordPerfect, Word, and PDF.

Any help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks very Much
Gil

I scanned the essential four pages yesterday and made a pdf file (about 360 kBytes) yesterday. PM me if you would prefer it in that format.
Wader, I'm not trying to compete with you...

RemStar Auto Clinician's Manual

Post by felineperson3 » Mon Feb 28, 2005 2:32 pm

I was interested when I saw this post as I would also like a copy of the clinician's manual for the RemStar Auto since all my DME would give me is the user's manual. I would like to be able to check my settings. I'm hoping to be able to obtain another auto from CPAP.com to have as a back-up before long and I'm sure they will provide me with both manuals, but in the meantime I don't have one.
Thanks for any help.

This is Christine (IllinoisRRT)- just a note (since you all know how I feel about this topic anyway)- if you say you want to "check" the pressure by getting into the therapy mode, you can't "check" anything unless you have a manometer. Just because the pressure says it is set at 10 or whatever doesn't mean that's what it's actually delivering, so I don't know how having the therapist manual will help you check anything. Just my .02.

Gang,
The pdf is on my server. I think I've PM'ed everybody who asked.

Christine,
What everybody wants to do is check the settings that the DME set on the machine, not the physical pressure. You know, since APAP is self-titrating there really is very little on the clinician's menu that a patient can screw up.

Why I needed a manual

Post by Gil » Tue Mar 01, 2005 1:56 am

I am new to the forum but was shocked that any one would not want you to have a manual that goes to my machine. First the RT set the machine up for CPAP when the RX said Autopap. If I had not applied resistance I would have come home with a CPAP. Knowing that the DME people ( 90% of them ) have NEVER told me the truth about any thing and been incompetent in
90 % of there actions, why would I want to trust there settings. Plus it would also be a great thing to set the pressure higher them the 8 to may be 12 about every 6 months to see what the machine ran at. If it said I needed a higher pressure I certainly would mention it to the doctor to get his advice.
There may be a good DME out there some were but I am locked in to mind due to Medicare. Believe me they are EVIL people. They have NEVER in ANY WAY had my health in consideration. So the sum of the matter is I AM ON MY OWN to make sure my health is the best it can be. So it is necessary that I get a manual or a lawyer. I chose the manual. If there are people out there dumb enough to change there pressure and not know what they are doing, the odds are something will get then sooner or later anyway ( That’s sad ). Plus I can not afford to jeopardize my health due to the incompetent DME.
I hope my words have not seem harsh because they were not written with that attitude.
But I have learned that facing reality is the best way to handle life's problems.

Gil,

You are not stuck with that crummy DME. Check out the link below. cpap.com, the sponsors of this forum have a new website serving medicare patients. They are great people to deal with and are very helpful. They will tell you how you can get what you want and not that you can't have it. Check them out.

Unfortunately Gil is right... From what I have heard, as soon as you go down that road with a DME and Medicare, you are kinda stuck with them. There was a post from Johnny about it...

I not stuck I have cpaptalk.com

Post by Gil » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:23 am

I have tried to switch DME’s. I called Medicare and they said I could. But when I talked to several DME’s including Cpap.com for seniors they all suggested I stay with the one I have. But I can get mask or other related equipment from then from Medicare. So that what I will do. Every thing will come from Cpa.com except the machine I have to go back to the original DME every 3 months. And that OK now because I have enough knowledge to make sure things are being done right because I have a manual and a lot of very nice people that are in the same boat and willing to help others.
Thank you all.

Once again, we've discovered a major flaw in the system. If the DME knows you're stuck with them, they are sure not going to be motivated to treat you well. I would love to hear the rationale for why this is.

Christine here again,
My understanding with Medicare is that you are free to go to whomever you want. I know that some areas are monopolized by one DME provider, but the choice is ultimately yours. I hate that you have had a bad experience with your DME, but as someone who works for one, I would urge you to push to find something better, especially if you have a choice. We are NOT all evil, I promise.
