Rooster,
Sounds like Hen has made your decision But there is always hope. Maybe you can sneek a few things "hoarded away" out on to ebay and raise the funds. I for one have never had serious problems with rainout, but after sticking around here long enough, finally decided I had to give the heated hose a try. Used the money my in-laws give for Christmas that is suppose to be invested into tools for my shop. But I figure this just another "tool" to hopefully help me sleep better. I will try almost amything to improve my sleep, although I have yet to tie any pantyhose around head

In my post at this link:

I listed some sites I found that sell a short connector hose. Even though it's actually made for Activa/Vista masks, it can be used with most masks. It's the resmed inlet tube and swivel, part# 60926:

Inlet Tube with Swivel Assembly for Mirage Vista Mask - Part # 60926

Mirage Activa Nasal Mask Inlet Tube and Swivel Assembly - 60926

Tube and Swivel for Vista mask - Stock # 60926

MIRAGE ACTIVA INLET TUBE WITH SWIVEL 60926

ResMed Mirage Activa and Vista Inlet Tube and Swivel - Fits both the Mirage Vista and Mirage Activa masks. Product Code: 60926
ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps

Question for those with rainout

Post by kteague » Fri Jan 05, 2007 7:17 pm

I too am watching the volley here (just in case I can ever afford to make a decision). I have used a Swift, Breeze, UM2, & CL2, and the only time I have had rainout was when I forgot to hang my covered regular hose from the bedpost overnite with a stretchy strap. Am I just lucky? It goes upward about 2 feet then back down. I use a Resmed Autoset Spirit with the humidifier on 3 to 4. The air feels fine with pillows, but cold in a nasal mask. I don't need more humidity, but a little more warmth would be nice so I could switch up masks. Would the heated hose accomplish that for me?
Kathy

Yes, Kathy, I think it would. The reason I say that is because some months ago I used a bipap with no heated humidifier. The incoming air was extremely cold -- was using only a regular hose with a good fleece cover around it.

After a couple of hours of the cold air making my nostrils feel worse, to the point of stinging, I then changed to the heated hose (still using no humidifier.) Within a few minutes after replacing the main air hose with the heated hose, the chill was taken off the air and the incoming air became just barely warm...a lot more comfortable for me. The inside of my nostrils stopped stinging and burning from the cold air.

Kathy, I have never had rainout. I got the heated hose only because my nose hurt it was so cold. I got the heated hose and now my nose is nice and warm all night. Not terribly warm, just not frozen. I love it!

Just an update on my Aussie Hose.
I got mine about a week ago as the bedroom is quite cool and I had rainout with my PB 420E set at about 2 on the HH.
I got my hose and immediately set my HH up to about 4 or 5 figuring I would get more humidity. Dumb idea! I nearly drowned! I had a few rough nights and backed it off finally to about 2 - 2 1/2 the last two nights and it has been excellent.
Like all OSA sufferers before I went on CPAP/APAP I used to wake up and go 'pee' for something to do. The last 3 nights I have slept straight through.
Will I have some more rough nights? You bet I will but it is the good nights on my therapy that make it all worth while!

Rainout

Post by kteague » Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:58 pm

In followup to my previous statement about not having rainout, just out of curiosity, I turned the humidifer up to nearly 5 and went to sleep. About an hour later I was RUDELY awakenened to an unplanned sinus irrigation. I'm exaggerating, of course, but if I had to dread that possibility every time I went to sleep, that could adversely affect my ability to even go to sleep - counteracting the good effects of treatment. To those who need more humidity but get rainout, my hat is off to you.

Alright, pass me a glass of that cool aid. I just ordered an aussie hose a few days ago. Whenever my humidifier is on anything less than 4, I get very dried out, and when I use my Aura, of course I get rainout like nobody's business, even though from night one I made a cover for it.

Last night I was drying out even on 4, so I bumped it up to 5... When I woke up this morning I rolled over onto my back and got a big dose of water up the nose. lol.

I do like the Aura a lot though.
