I received a call from my new DME this afternoon informing me that the RT just returned from a conference, I don't know the location of this conference.
Anyway, at the conference they spoke about pillow systems and the auto titrating machines. They say that pillow systems should not be used with auto titrating machines because it "screws up" (my wording) the readings. I guess the auto isn't able to really get a good reading due to the pillows.
Has anyone else heard this???

The Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 420E autopap and the Puritan Bennett Breeze with nasal pillows were designed to be used with each other. On the other hand, at one time (I haven't looked recently) Respironics recommended that their own "ComfortLite nasal pillows" not be used with their own autos. So.....
Both of the Respironics REMstar autos I've used my Breeze and a Swift with have done fine with either of those pillows interfaces.
I've used other masks of different types with both brands of machines. No problem.
There will always be some combos of patient/machine/mask that don't gee and haw together well. But for the vast majority that we see posting on message boards, it seems that just about any mask with any autopap seems to work all right.
Bottom line for me is, if you feel good the next day after using any particular machine or any particular mask, it's a good combo for you even if it doesn't suit others.
