Irritated Skin from Cold
So I have my first cold since starting CPAP. I can still breathe fine so not worried about that. However, the bottom of my nose and upper lip are red/irritated from all the nose blowing I've done today. In the past I would have slathered some Vaseline on there before bed, but after some googling I have come to the conclusion that Vaseline would not be good for my silicone nasal mask cushion (and let me tell you, I got some *interesting* results from that search
). Any suggestions? Regular lotion does not last long enough. Would a first aid type antibacterial ointment be ok?

Those are petroleum based, so they have the same issue. Your might try a wax based lip balm. I find the lotion infused tissues helpful in reducing the cause of the problem.blacknebula wrote:So I have my first cold since starting CPAP. I can still breathe fine so not worried about that. Lanolin based formulas are silicone compatible.
Lansinoh is a product some of us use here.

Never even considered lanolin, being allergic to it. There is a lanolin free product available on Amazon called "CPAP Moisture Therapy" that is based on emu oil. It works well but it doesn't smell great.

Lansinoh is medical grade and highly purified,
because it is intended for use with nursing infants.
Many of the common allergens have been removed, including the smelly ones.
Maybe that includes the stuff that causes you grief.

I use it every night! Bought mine at Walmart, in the baby department. $8.95 and I bet that tube will last me 10 years.zonker wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 9:11 pm+1chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:20 pmLanolin based formulas are silicone compatible.

Second vote for the Lansinoh lanolin. I got it to help get used to a nasal pillow mask, and have used it a few times since when my nose started to get raw when I got a cold.blacknebula wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:28 pmThank you!chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:20 pmLanolin based formulas are silicone compatible.
