Two Years as a Hosehead - Loving it!

Post by Bertha deBlues » Fri Feb 23, 2018 10:19 am

No, I don't love having sleep apnea, but I love that it can be managed and I love that I'm feeling better. Two years ago tonight I started on CPAP therapy. The first couple of months were rough - until I discovered there was help on line. Started with The Lanky Lefty's website - wonderful videos and explanations! Discovered the apnea board and cpaptalk - more explanations and honest to goodness help. Learned that there is no one size fits all treatment, but I can fine tune the treatment to my needs. Also learned that the fine tuning never goes away completely but does become easier.

I'm not very active on any forum, but visit regularly to pick up new tips, and to be reminded of tips I had forgotten. I just wanted to say thanks for all the help I've received over the last two years. :D

Congratulations on sticking with it!
Hoping your treatment continues to be successful,

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

Hi Bertha,

So glad to read that things are going well.

Isn't it crazy to think that we mask up now every night without even thinking about it?? I swear I can't even imagine sleeping without it now ... you said it perfectly in your post. I too love being a hosehead. No way will I ever go back to how it "was" .... ugh!

We are so fortunate and lucky to have these forums and all the help.

Congratulations on learning a very valuable lesson.

I look at it this way...always a work in progress and never perfect and never completed.
Sometimes crap just happens and not much we can do about it because we don't know when it will happen again.
I woke up this morning with the nasal pillow sitting slightly ajar (had face buried in the bed pillow) and it was of course leaking.
The leak didn't wake me up though...it was just time to wake up because the damn phone was ringing.
Now I haven't bothered to download the results yet but I know it's going to show some big leaks at least during that time frame.
This doesn't happen to me often so I don't worry about it so much. If I made a habit of it then maybe I would devote some time into preventing future happenings.

Oh....after coming on 9 years of cpap therapy. I still can't say that I love anything about it. I would really rather not wear all this stuff but I do accept it as a necessary part of my life and I make the best of it.
It is what it is.

Agreed, Arlene. It's just part of my routine now and I'm not giving it up.

Yep, I still have the occasional bad night, but you just have to press on.
