New user and ad ice please

Hello. I have recently - about 6 days ago- started my cpap therapy. I was first diagnosed with apenea in 2012 mild to moderate with most events happening whike on my back. I first used a device to train myself to sleep on my back and then had an oral device made by my dentist. I stopped being compliant with that and have bee sufferring from fagigue since Feb 2017. Only when my daughter could not share a room with me (and I was using the oral device) did I start to think about the aponea causing the fatigue. I was not falling asleep during thr day and thought I slept well. I had a sleep test in hospital and I had moderate to severe sleep aponea. Tested again in November using oral device and with that test was told by sleep doctor that I had moderate sleep aponea and she said I could either choose the oral device -with adjustments made to it by my dentist- or go down the cpap line. My decision was the cpap machine. I had a tritration study and results were a scriot for 7.

I bought my equipment from Cpap Australia who provide a wifi service and I can continue to see the sleep doctor via the internet who will do changes in pressure based on the data.

The machine is an auto and I set it at 4.5 to 12 so I could start and I emailed the scriot to cpap australia. For the past 6 days, therapy has been good. Getting to sleep and aponeas low -highest 3.4 and lower.

My problem is the inside of my nose is getting sore and a little bloody in the morning. Is it a case of persisting and I hopefully will toughen up or is it that the pressure is too high and unnecessary with my script?

Hoping for some help and thank you for reading

Humidification helped me greatly. I was also told to use KY Jelly in my nose (definitely not petroleum products).

I agree, it sounds like you need more humidity. Either provide it in the ambient air (humidify the room air) or use/acquire a humidification device for your CPAP. If you already have a humidifier on the machine, and don't have a drippy splashy mask that sends gouts of water down your nose at times, and your hose doesn't have pooled condensation at its lowest point each morning when you awaken, then dial up the humidity a bit. Sometimes a heatable hose helps if you can get one.

Actually, your low setting of 4.5 is so low that most people have trouble inhaling at the level and raise it to at least 6 and very often higher over time. It is also rarely very therapeutic so low as it takes too long for it to reach higher level events and address them.

I've got the same set up as you. I just changed to the p10 a couple of days ago. You might also try a different size pillow. Also, try to keep the mask as loose as possible without causing leaks. A fine line indeed.

To loosen the p10 headset, the back of the headgear is split wider apart.

If you are getting blood, is it friction that is causing it? A tiny bit of oil can help reduce friction. If you think the problem is dryness, try upping the humidity. Also pad-a-cheek sells liners for your mask. Or you could make your own with an old t shirt. Cut out two holes for the nares and enough cloth to wrap around the cushion, but DON'T COVER THE VENTS. You need the vent to get rid of the gasses of the exhale. VIP.

Your machine is data capable. You can see you night's sleep if you download Sleepyhead. Take the SD card from xpap to computer. And upload the data to your PC. If nothing else, it is interesting. You get to see every breath. And, if necessary, it is an effective way to communicate problems here on this board.

In any event try out some of the suggestions and let us know if they have helped. Others will chine in with more solutions.

Thank you for your kind replies. I think I may have been pushing the pillows into my nose instead of letting it seal and have the pillows outside the nose. The machine came with the humidifer and climate change hose. The humidifer was set on auto so I changed it to manual and put it up higher. The setting of the min to 6 I will do that as I liked the more air from the start and have already turned my ramp off.

I had to travel out of town on a unexpected trip on day 2 and only have my ipad and phone so cannot load sleephead nor the remed software cd I purchased until I get home to my laptop later this month.

Thank you all, I will buy the jelly and see how it goes over the next few nights
