Need Help

Post by sbccbalaji » Sun Feb 04, 2018 2:14 am

Hi,
I am a50 years old male from Chennai, India and having heavy snoring and disturbed sleep resulting tiredness during daytime.I consulted a sleep specialist who diagnosed me for Obstructive Sleep Apnea and recommended to Purchase a CPAP machine Lowenstein Medical Prisma-20A with nasal mask of same brand and 19-2 mm hose, who is also dealer of these machines!!

Before purchasing the Machine he have given a machine for a trial purpose and it worked excellently and i got impressed and then only i bought the same machine (a New One). But i was not satisfied with the settings and felt that the pressure was too high. I went again to his technician and asked to do something about it. Even after two visits i experience the same problem.

Then i decided to change the settings of pressure on my own. Studied the manual and made my settings to APAP with min 4 hPa and max 10 hPa.and soft PAP setting to 2.

Now i want to know, Is it ok to use the machine without experts advise..but i tried for a couple of days and seems to be comfortable with the settings ....

do you have the program that reads the sd card that is used with this machine and displays a chart? If not you will be better taking the seller settings from his readings

what info does it give on the screen?

Yes, but the min. setting of 4 is usually too low for the majority of people to inhale comfortably at and I'd raise it at least to 6 for starting out. Leaving the high setting at e.g. 15 will NOT cause you to experience too high pressure but allow occasional apneas that do hit higher levels to peak, rather than being forcibly 'capped' (which could actually cause worse problems).

Your machine is unlikely to be compatible with the current software used to track overnight progress and see what's what and I'd urge you to not enrich the doctor's interests by buying the Prisma (not used in N. America) but take a look at more up to date others that are 1) auto vs plain cpap, and 2) able to be monitored by Sleepyhead - links below. You may not have access to some machines where you live but hopefully others here can help with that. Look at Cpap.com for full info on newest machines. You may need local advice re importing machines, possibly from the UK if not here, if they are unavailable there. ResMed does not ship outside the U.S.
