Thanks

Over the last 15 years, cpap has done nothing but encourage me to further indulge in my vices, which some describe as alcohol and mental and moral abandon.

But believe me, smoking is off the table!
Vices are stored in your and nurtured in your head. XPAP can't breed self control, if it could more people could make it work. Jim

The last time I had alcohol was last year during the Super Bowl. I had 3 beers. Looks like I'm due again!

Using the word 'alcoholic' tells me you realize you have a problem with drinking. Why not do something about it, as you are with your OSA?

You may be functioning now, but the question is how long will your liver and heart be functioning properly?
Not preaching,....just tossing a thought out there.

Good luck!

I've been thinking about this too. in the usaf i had a boss that i worked with at 2 different bases. we were also neighbors and drinking buddies. off duty he was always drunk and always had a beer. one drink of my 151 rum put him out like a light. the thing is, he was always ok at work. i could never figure it out until a friend told me i had never seen him sober. i have a name for it now: functioning alcoholic. take the beer out of his hand and he appeared the same every hour of the day, intoxicated. when guys hit reverse tolerance like that a beer gets them as drunk as a whole case. after they dry out, one beer makes them as drunk as they ever were. Father dano, if you're not there yet, or if you are, please get help.

Once I start using a cpap how will casual drinking affect the process?

I enjoy drinking socially and am a brewer. yes I have a higher tolerance due to drinking a lot of beer.

its not unusual to have 5-6 beers an evening 4-5 times a week(not to me anyways...)(6pm-10pm is the timeframe normally except weekends when I may stay up later)

Is a cpap going to help me with my vices?(I quit smoking and vape 3mg )

Sorry this is so brief im just preparing myself for the inevitable.

Thanks
If you have five or six beers four or five time a week then you are an alcololic. Also explains your weight..

Denial is at least as common with drinkers as it is with apnea sufferers.

and just as deadly

Fixing a sleep-breathing problem can improve all aspects of life. I am glad you were motivated to find this forum for help with that. We are at your service.

Fixing an alcohol-dependence problem can also improve life. It is my hope you are as motivated to find helpful people who are glad to be of service to you with that as well. May they be as proud of you for seeking help with the alcohol issue as we are of you for coming here for the sleep-breathing issue.

Both issues often require some work and some support, but the benefits are often huge.
