Dreamstation oxygen adapter for heated hose

Post by USMCVet » Tue Jan 23, 2018 3:32 pm

I just had my oxygen concentrator delivered. The adapter the guy brought wouldn't attach between hose and mask and doesn't work with heated hose.

Luckily on this site I read about a solution and was prepared!

I bought the soclean adapter for my Dreamstation and modified it for my uses.

Please see attached pictures. The only modification I had to make was to remove the plastic piece at end of hose that would connect to oxygen line. I just tested it for a minutes and all worked well with no detectable leaks using my fingers.

Let me know if you have any questions on anything.

masks have little plugs in them that you can pull out and plug your o2 directly in the mask and forget all that other stuff.

I have Dreamwear nasal cushions and it doesn't have an oxygen port

You also have to make sure you aren't a mouth breather, or it negates everything. Do you know, was it mentioned about your charts? It wouldn't be silly to use a FFM if you have one.

On rare occasions will a notice a small brief leak from mouth. Here is most recent chart I have online and leaks look good I think.

You need the flow rate and the leak chart, You may need to change the Y-axis to see more detail too. rightclick on name and y-axis and override to set the display, get the chart up and see

if the stats are right and machines can get them wrong
the minute vent of 6.62 is low. or you are short or very healthy.? there may be mouthbreathing. gender N/A, a female would make more sense to your overall numbers.
breath rate of 18 and TV of 360 is messy too, but bpap may help there. your body finds it easier to breathe fast than make your lungs expand.

If you weren't going to add o2 as well tonight. because of the minute vent I'd try a FFM if it improves there is mouth leaking. because of the o2, I would just use a FFM to remove this variable.

I would use min pressure of 9 or 10

I plan on wearing pulse oximeter tonight to see what happens. Just sitting there went from 93% to 99% in no time! I'm set up with 2 lpm

I hope you have a long extension cord, it seems like you could be going to use it 24/7,
I would turn it down or not use it while awake. you want to be lower than 99% ..google it, you need to be where you are 94/95 during the day, for night time desats, or you mess up your blood gasses, pH etc. if your daytime o2 level increases by itself. that's fine. You MAY also want to target 95% over night too.
if you cant find o2 stuff on net. sing out and I'll google it

I am usually around 93 to 94 during day. I was testing it for a couple minutes to make sure it was working. The oxygen concentrator itself is actually pretty quiet. As long as I don't have Severe COPD you will all get results from me tomorrow.

See after the doctors do their stuff. when i first posted, I was leaning towards a COPD or HF, you don't have HF so I'm just leaning towards a copd, you probably don't have a motor neuron disease.
you could try min 9 or 10 and surprise everyone.

USMCVET: I have the same setup that you have and I have been trying to figure out how to get my oxygen through my heated hose. So, you took the plastic piece off the end of the SoClean Adapter hose and connected your oxygen hose to it? I take it that in the morning you switch them back and put the SoClean hose back on for cleaning. Is that difficult to do? Have you tried that yet? Does the SoClean work ok after the switch?

Thanks for the information. twj408@aol.com

USMCVet does NOT have the SoClean unit. He only purchased the adapter for the O2 bleed.

But if he had it would work just as good at cleaning as before, because they don't clean anything and never have. Jim

I've got some patented pixie dust to sell. It will clean the machine like new and cure nasal congestion

That plastic piece on end of hose that connects to soclean hose just pulls out. Then you slide hose into oxygen line hose. You can then pull the hoses apart and reinsert that plastic piece.
So yes you can do it.
