Weird thing happened this morning. My S9 autoset shut off this morning. Normally, when therapy is stopped, the display stays lit for a couple of minutes - not in this case. At first, I blamed my cats (they have no compunction walking over whatever is in their way, me included), then a power outage. Unfortunately, it's cold so the cats were glued to me at the time, and the electricity was stable (no other devices showed signs of outage). I checked the power connection, including looking for broken pins. No error messages. The thing works fine now. Just curious if I should order a new XPAP, chalk it up to supernatural phenomena or pretend it never happened. I've been thinking of getting a new machine, but would rather wait a month or two.
Wondering if this is something others may have experienced. My units is 5+ years old with usage hours in the high teens of thousands.
Thanks for your thoughts,
RiverDave

Re: ResMed S9 "spontaneously" shut off
First, unplug your machine for 5 minutes and then plug it back in. That should reset any calamity. You can get a momentary brown out and that same thing could happen. Instead of plugging directly into a wall, you might consider plugging it into a surge protector. Won't protect you against a thunderstorm-caused surge, but does help for minor power fluctuations.
If your machine is 5 years old or close to 15,000 hours, I would consider starting the process of getting a new machine so that your S9 is still very functional for a backup.
BTW, that is why I decided to look for another Airsense to replace my S9. My cats kept walking on the button and shutting it off. FWIW, once past your compliance period (if you have one), always take your backup machine if you go to the hospital, not your primary. Too much risk of your machine getting damaged. They are careful, but that 6 foot hose has a tendency to get caught up in things.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try the surge protector. I really should start the process, since my current backup is an old S7 that hasn't been turned on in years.

If it keeps happening, turn off the smart start, the sensor in that can play up.

I had to turn off the excess leak shut off. Apparently it was too sensitive.

Might consider getting a Power Outage Alarm that way you will know if power went off. I keep mine plugged into the surge protector strip along with my S9 power brick and cell phone charger.

Re: ResMed S9 "spontaneously" shut off
I own one or more of each of these UPS devices. I use them for my computers and CPAPs. Bought them at Walmart for considerably less than their list prices. I've taken the BACK-UPS-650M1 with me on a couple of trips (by vehicle) last year and it's relatively small to carry along in a travel bag.
I had used Tripp Lite UPS devices for many years at home and APC UPS devices at work, but my old Tripp Lite UPSes started having problems, so I found these nearby and started replacing them.

Thank you all for the advice! Apparently, the demon had been exorcized for now.
