Thank you for being helpful!

Sprite with sugar equals weight gain to some folks. It did me, I quit drinking Dr Pepper for a year and dropped 10 lbs. I really think it has to do with a person's metabolism. Now I quit drinking anything approx 4 hours before bed, works for me.

No need to apologize to me. The damage you are doing is to yourself.

But, I am disappointed that a Marine does not have the discipline to ditch this unhealthy habit.

Aw come on. Marines are trained to be the best - killing machines, not health food role models. Unless you are his mother, you have no right to be disappointed.

In reality they are trained to follow orders, they also smoke and drink, maybe they didn't get that order. Jim

My mother in law drank 7-up to help her burp, and relieve a gassy tummy.
Alka Seltzer's fizz is there for a reason, and if a burp will help, so be it.
Soda pop is bad for many reasons. Carbonation, IMO,
is less an issue than the sugar and phosphoric acid, among other things.
Phosphoric acid prevents calcium from reaching the bones,
contrary to "research" conducted on behalf of beverage companies..

You have been granted by the forum owners a right to tell me I have no right to be disappointed. But, I am still exercising my God-given right to be disappointed.

Marine or not... drinking a carbonated beverage before bed is simply not the worst habit I've ever heard of. Have you managed to rid yourself of every 'bad' habit you have? If so, then congrats I guess. I wouldn't think twice about having a carbonated drink before bed if I felt like having one. I don't think it causes any problems except maybe burping... and sometimes that's a good thing... especially if one has gerd. It also sometimes satisfies my need for a snickers bar.

In part, I was hoping to know if drinking a carbonated beverage (could be diet something) made a difference or not.
Thank you for clarifying. I drink soda sometimes up to bedtime. No increased weight gain or other issues associated with it.

Several years ago, I gave up soda for 6 months. I didn't sleep any better. I didn't lose any weight. I actually got dehydrated. I was drinking some water, but not nearly as much liquid as when I drank mostly pop. I went back to drinking pop, but not nearly as much as I used to. I drink water with breakfast, on my break at work, and some of the time at home. I still drink pop with lunch and dinner. I used to drink pop at ALL of those times.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Maybe he enjoys burping? Let's ask him.
