New BPAP (quick sleepyhead and SmartOff questions)

Post by metallikat36 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 5:24 pm

Just a sanity check here. I set up my new AirCurve10V Auto today and just used it for like 5 minutes. I imported the SD card into Sleepyhead. I see it reads I have changed machines, but it does not show any data for those 5 minutes I used it. It says "bob is bored with no data".

1.Will this fix itself after sleeping a whole night?
2. The Smart Start feature does not seem to work when I remove the mask (i.e. smart "off"). It works when I put it on though. Any clues why this may be? My tubing is slightly wet because I cleaned them this morning. Though I saw the LCD was reading a continuous supply of my set EPAP pressure, which is what I would expect ought to trigger a "SmartOff".

Thanks,
David

EDIT: I just found this thread with the same SmartOff issue:

I will try the things suggested there and report back soon.

Hi metallikat36,

Sleepyhead has a number of preferences. Including one that sets the length of time shorter than which it will ignore the data - act as if that short session doesn't exist. If I remember, the minimum is 5 minutes. You can change this. But to answer your first question: yes, this will 'fix itself' - as soon as you have a session that is longer than the set minimum.

Sometimes the "off" part of SmartStart on the ResMed machines doesn't want to work right depending on the mask and the pressure used.

Next time you try it just unhook your mask from the hose and see if it works then.

Thanks for the replies. This forum is great.

Regarding the SmartOff, yes, removing the mask makes it work. I was also surprised to learn that turning on AB filter (without having one) increases the pressure globally, even though the LCD will not say so. This also caused my SmartOff to work. So it seems I have too low an EPAP pressure set to make it work correctly. I have IPAP of 7 and EPAP of 4 at the moment. The strange thing is that my AirSense 10 had IPAP of 7 and EPR of 3, and the SmartOff worked fine.

Is this malfunctioning SmartOff situation in line with what the documentation claims about not working at lower pressures? Is this worth doing anything about, or should I just live with it? I generally sleep with the mask on the whole night, maybe just going to the bathroom once, or occasionally the mask falls off once in several nights and I go on sleeping without knowing. Not a big issue I guess. I sleep alone. Probably not something ResMed or my DME could do anything about anyway, right?

It is in line with the documentation about some masks and lower pressures.
I have it right now with my AirSense 10 machine and my mask (nasal pillow) and my pressure of 7 cm minimum with EPR of 3 so that makes EPAP 4 on exhale.

SmartStart works fine when I start the night and inhale but won't work at all when I take the mask off unless I remove the nasal pillow.
I just reach over and push the button to turn it off.
There's nothing you can do about it short of using more pressure...just live with it and push the button to turn the machine off when you want it off.
