Aclaim 2 Questions

Post by Sleeping With The Enemy » Fri Feb 25, 2005 9:48 am

Has anyone used the Aclaim 2?

I'm currently trying the Breeze. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I wake up in the wee hours and it feels like the nasal pillows (large) are shoved into my nose so hard my nose hurts. I've adjusted the little screw thing in the front, I've adjusted the slider thing on top. I have to take it off because my nose hurts so much... I like the fact that it is straight up the middle of my head because I toss and turn.

Has anyone had any luck with a Breeze with Dreamseal or the Aclaim 2????

Don't want to offend any Aclaim2 users here BUT.........My Aclaim2 is the best "sling shot" I've ever had. Smooth "river rocks" work best !

Obviously from the above statement you can quickly determine my feelings about the AC2. It's just another example of the Respironics line of masks that require an "extra tight" (ouch) headgear adjustment.

Now...the Breeze. There are some Breeze Experts here on Cpaptalk. They might be more suited to help you with those adjustments.

!!! ATTENTION tomjax and Rested Gal. These 2 folks have their Masters degree in Breezology.

Good Luck

I had the same problem with the breeze. If I adjusted it tight enough to stop the leaks, it felt like I was trying to ram my nose up into my brain, and I ended up with painful nostrils and a wicked sinus headache.

I've since been told I wasn't adjusting it right, but boy I think I tried every adjustment I could make, and it didn't help me.

Liam, whose nose is back in place now, which is good, he looked SO funny without one.

The acclaim 2 is a Fisher Paykel mask and they later replaced it with the HC405 and the HC407. If a dme gave you the acclaim please tell them to take it back...they knew it was crap when they gave it to you. If you chose it yourself...well then how would you have known?

I'm curious to see what fixes your breeze problem. Any suggestions would help a lot of patients I talk to.

Hi Heidi (SleepingWithTheEnemy),

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Breeze. As much as I love the Breeze, no mask works for everyone. Hope you can get it going better for you, though.

Some questions:

Do you sleep on your back much?

Do you have the main air hose hung up above your head?

What size nasal pillows are you using (what color are the little pillows - light blue, clear, mint green or lavender?)

I've read where at least one person put a folded piece of foam up above the forehead to make the front of the headgear sit outward a bit more away from the front of their nose.

Also have read of some people carefully bending the metal spine to change the angle/fit of the whole assembly.

Rested Gal,

I'm using the large (mint colored). I called the DME and she is going to send me extra large.

I may play around with trying to stick something in there because I do like the freedom of turning head side to side. I sleep mostly on tummy and sides.

I also have the Activa, I think I really like this mask!

But would like the pillow option if I can make it work....
