How much deep sleep do you get?

Post by Rainmom17 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 3:47 pm

So far, my 3 nights using my Fitbit Charge 2 have been fairly illuminating. The results seem to match up very well with Sleepyhead, which is great. I do see, that at least in those 3 nights, I'm short on Deep Sleep. Last night, in 7 hours of sleep, it said I only had 11 minutes of deep sleep (2% of my sleep). The nights before were both 10% of my sleep being categorized as deep sleep. I've seen a few different resources that recommend 15-20% of your sleep being deep sleep. Anyone here who is sleeping well who knows your percent of deep sleep per night? (I'll just add that I know it's only been 3 days so it's very limited data. It does match my sleep study though, which was 9%, except that was pre-cpap.)

Forgive me for not going back to piece together prior information. I just remember a discussion with you about legs. If the fitbit device sleep stage determination is based on movement, wouldn't that be skewed for a person whose legs move a lot? Wondering of anyone with RLS or PLMD on here uses a fitbit?

Edited post, I misread what it was asking. I usually get around 2 hours of deep sleep according to my Fitbit ionic.

Kteague, I don't have restless legs or PLMD, so those wouldn't be affecting my data. But it is a good question you ask about skewed results for someone who does have them!

Thanks for responding USMCVet -- however, I was specifically wondering about deep sleep, rather than total hours.

Hi. If I spend somewhere near 50% or so in deep sleep (per Fitbit), I consider that a bad night. It usually corresponds with a sense of not having gotten much sleep upon awaking. My nightly goals are 60-65% and 4+ hours in deep sleep. Ever since I started using a CPAP, however, I have been having more difficulty reaching those goals, primarily due to a sense of having to "wrestle" with the mask, hose and air pressure.

Cheers,

MC

Thanks for the update USMCVet. Two hours of deep sleep sounds great!

Mr. Crayola - holy cow - that much time in deep sleep?? I didn't think that was possible.

Over the last week I've had from 15 minutes to 1 hour 11 minutes of deep sleep, tending toward the lower values. During my deep sleep periods I'm having no leaks or hypopneas. But I don't see any correlation between leaks and hypopneas and light or REM sleep. I'm not sure how much I trust the fitbit statistics, although they are interesting.
