How to merge existing profiles SleepyHead

Post by JimW159 » Wed Dec 27, 2017 10:52 am

I apologize if this may seem a redundant topic, but I have looked through several topics dealing with how to set up SH with multiple users/machines, etc. and have yet to find anything that seems to address my specific question, though.

In the past when first beginning to use SH, I set up separate profiles for each machine I used or tried. My rationale was that it would be easier for me to keep the data isolated when reading the charts without constantly checking which machine created it. I now find that has created a bottleneck when attempting to create a cohesive summary for my primary care physician. Knowing her, she will want all the data in a rather more linear format and will not want to be constantly shifting between reports to keep a time-line straight.
Consequently, I would like to create a merged profile that will include data from multiple existing profiles (at this point, there are three profiles, each from a single machine).
Since the data no longer exists on cards that I have faith will contain complete data from their respective machines, I need to use only data that already exists in SH files.

Thus, "can it be done and how to do it?"

Hmmmm...which 3 machines?

Give me a minute to come up with some specific steps.

First thing though...create a new user profile for this experiment and once you tell me exactly which 3 models/brands of machine maybe by then I will have some steps to try to merge things.

If the data was still on the SD cards...piece of cake and you can still do it but some of the detailed will be absent depending on what is on the cards and the machine models involved.

Thanks for the quick response.
1) Currently active profiles in SH: two AS10s (one as primary, with one as backup & travel) separate cards for each
2) Past profile I still have in SH: one S9 which I have since passed on to a new user
3) Merged profile created per instructions

Okay....go to your MyDocuments folder and find the SleepyHead testing main folder and go into that folder and look for the Profiles folder.

You should see your 3 different profiles along with the newly created profile just made for experimental purposes.
Inside each profile you should see a folder with the machine's serial number as the main folder.
Copy the entire folder and its sub contents in one copy function ....so right click that serial number folder and "copy"...
then go back to the newly created profile folder and paste the serial number folder into that new profile.
Do this with all 3 machines.
The 2 AirSense serial numbers...should copy/paste fairly easily.
The S9...I don't have one of those on this computer to see what the contents are but give it a try.

The whole idea is to copy the data that is generating the reports into the newly created profile. I haven't had a chance to try this myself to see how effective it is or even if it will work but in theory it should.
SleepyHead doesn't care how many machine serial numbers are under one profile name....on my old computer I have 6 different machines under one profile but then I downloaded them all to that profile...I didn't try moving old stored data.

If this works..home free...if not we create another profile and try something else. No matter what we do this way we aren't harming the old data files since all we are doing is copying and removing a profile that is new that doesn't work is easy to do.

With the suggested method, SH apparently sees nothing. Also, when I went into the S9 folder, I found the data mostly gone (I suspect in my housekeeping zeal, I tossed much of the data). So, at this point, I am dealing only with the two AS10s and will see what I have on the cards in hopes that it is complete enough to work. I tend to think that the overarching environmental and logistics files created with the profiles point to data that must be imported from file sets that fit the protocol of what is written on the cards, rather than what SH writes to the SH data folders.
Thanks a lot. I suspect Mark has other fish to fry and will not even suggest he offer a solution - very low priority, I am sure.

Okay...forget the S9 and just work with the 2 SD cards from the 2 AirSense machines. It overwrites stuff after just 7/30 days anyway but the AirSense machines don't overwrite anything until at least a year and maybe even longer.
Create another profile (you can remove the one that didn't work) and this time simply import the data from the 2 different SD cards into the newly created profile and see what you get.

If you haven't removed anything from the SD cards...the bulk of all your data should show up under the one new profile.
Only exception might be detailed data over 1 year old and the chances of your doctor wanting that is fairly slim.

Thanks for your effort - the cards associated with the two AS10s had complete data from when they were first put into service. Consequently, the only data missing is from prior to the first AS10. Other than sentimental reasons, I have no need for it. Fortunately, my memory is still good enough to pull the effects of that period of PAPing in to focus and use it to reinforce the benefits of the process. In short, I don't need that data to know that "it is better to PAP than to never have PAPed at all".

Well 2 out of 3 isn't bad.
There may be a way to move that S9 stuff over into that folder and have it work but I can't think of anything else to try at the moment and I seem to be coming down with some sort of bug with big headaches and all that so my brain isn't working so good.

Other than sentimental reason that old data really isn't critical and you have it in the other profile anyway.

Maybe PR knows exactly which files/folders need to be moved over.....I am pretty sure it can be done but I don't know for sure which files/folders are the needed files.

At this point, I'm a happy camper. The underlying obstacle, I think, is not which files need moving, but rather the file structure. The file structure on the card is created by the machine and the data within copied to locations within a new structure created by SH. From there, SH pulls the data out of the new structure and arranges it for display within a framework dictated by SH. SH is pulling the data only, not the structure and putting it where it will look for it when tasked to do so by itself.

Would a rebuild cpap data cause sleepyhead to import from the backup folders ?

While it doesn't cause SH to automatically import from the backup, it does allow it to but only if you tell it exactly where to look.
I will outline the process I found works (for some reason SH reports one fewer test days with this process than when I imported from the cards):
1) The location of the backup is - sleepyhead/profiles/(profile ID as created by SH)/(name of machine with serial number)/backup
2) Open SH then create a new profile (give it a unique name), click on CPAP IMPORTER - when the dialog box pops up, click on SPECIFY to navigate to the backup folder from where you want to import (just highlight the folder, don't open it) the DIRECTORY box adjacent to the CHOOSE button will have the single word BACKUP in it
3) Click on CHOOSE - the import process should begin, once finished the completion notice will pop up
4) You can now click on any of the display related buttons to the right (STATISTICS, DAILY, and OVERVIEW) to go to whatever information display you want.

To import from additional backups, simply repeat the process until the merged profile is fully populated. As stated above, when I imported from the cards, the statistics display reported 541 days of CPAP data from (date) to (date). When building a new merged profile from other profiles' backups, it reported 540 days with the same set of dates. I have not gone through the days to see what days, if any are missing - I have no idea why this happens or if there are negative side effects.
So, using the REBUILD function will not achieve the desired merger of multiple profiles - this process requires the profile you are attempting to populate have active and complete backups. The merger profile will be empty thus, no data to rebuild with. Your suggestion of using the rebuild function pointed to the probability that the backup folder's file structure would emulate the card's and allow the importation from what is, in effect, a card clone. For that suggestion, I thank you very much.
For Pugsy: this simple process suggested by Jas_williams is like a very effective Aspirin for the headache I caused you - use it in good health.

Your approach should also work for the S9 Backup folders if you still have the data on your computer.
