Hearing Loss & CPAP Machines

Post by Bonhomme22b » Wed Dec 13, 2006 11:44 am

Does anyone have any evidence that hearing is impaired in any way by CPAP machines?

Thanks for your response.

The only thing I can think of is when you have sleep apnea but do NOT use an xPAP machine. After your needlessly-early death, you will have 100% hearing loss.

Aside from that... I wouldn't think any reasonably quiet machine would be an issue, even over long spans of time.

My wife tells me that when I am out of town she misses my CPAP and the "white noise" it makes. She loves that it drowns out the noises from outside.

Probably not what you meant, but I've always thought it was kind of funny.

WHAT???

you must have a pretty noisy machine. Mine is nice and quiet, much quieter since I started using the Soyala mask.

The pressure makes my ears a bit stuffy and takes most of the day to clear.

I have always had sensitive ears.

I went to have my hearing evaluated recently and was told I am normal.

I supposed there is a range of "normal" as I have difficulty hearing some people and my husband has to crank up the TV for me.

So while my hearing is "normal" it is definately not as good as many other people, and it varies throughout the day (longer from the night I get, the better I can hear) due to the stuffiness clearing, just in time to go to bed again.

Given an option of sleeping or having my hearing impared, I take the ability to sleep any day.
