I will be beginning CPAP therapy in the first week of 2018. The device I will be using is a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. My sleep study AHI was 17.9.
I have read assorted descriptions of how long it takes a newbie to completely adjust the CPAP therapy and these range from almost immediately to many months. I of course personally wish that I adjust quickly but I don't want to be discouraged when my unrealistic expectations are not met. What factors are we talking about here? I suppose that device adjustments are very important, but I would presume there are less tangible factors as well. I will of course stay in close touch with the forum, but I welcome any suggestions from you veterans who've been there and done that.

Re: Adjusting to CPAP therapy
I think the problem many people have in the beginning is finding a mask that is comfortable for the way they sleep. If you are a mouth breather, the nasal and pillow masks may be troublesome unless you use a chinstrap or tape. You might want to review the pictures of the various masks on cpap.com and read the comments from actual users.

Re: Adjusting to CPAP therapy
I'm definitely a mouth breather and I often experience nasal congestion so I'm pretty much committed to a full face mask. I do understand that mask problems are a major hurdle to overcome.LSAT wrote:I think the problem many people have in the beginning is finding a mask that is comfortable for the way they sleep. I always liked this quote from Yogi Berra.Josiah wrote:I will be beginning CPAP therapy in the first week of 2018. The device I will be using is a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. My sleep study AHI was 17.9.

I think it can be applied to other things......like adjusting to CPAP therapy.
