diameter of CPAP hose???
diameter of CPAP hose???
I am in my 3rd month of use on a Resmed Air Curve ASV. My DME sent me a new hose for my CPAP and when I tried to use it the machine makes loud noise when in use. I put my old hose back on and it is quiet. I noticed that the new hose has a larger diameter, and has a different color of stripping(grey rather than white) and the connectors on either end on the old one says Resmed. The new hose has no logo. It appears to be a generic tube. If the diameter of the hose is bigger do I have to adjust the machine some way to compensate for the larger diameter or did the DME send me an incorrect hose?
Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
Yes, diameter matters significantly.
There is a setting in the clinical setup menu area for hose diameter....only needs manual choice when a non heated hose is used.
Heated hoses are slimline and the machine knows when a heated hose gets plugged in and makes the necessary adjustment automatically.
If a non heated hose is used and the new hose has a larger diameter...need to change the hose diameter setting in the setup menu area.
Do you know how to get into the setup menu area?

No. How do you get into the set up menu on a Resmed Air Curve ASV?
Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your machine. It explains how to get to the setup menu area and has a bunch of other informative stuff about your machine.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
There is also a short version of how to get to that area but go ahead and get the manual and read it. There's a lot more information in it than you would have in any user manual you might have.

Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
Thanks for the info. So depending on the increase in diameter what do I adjust the settings to? I have it set now with the ramp off. This was how it was set with the narrower tubing. What do I adjust ramp to or is it something else that I need to adjust? I really appreciate your advise. The DME doesn't care.
Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
You only have 3 choices in the hose settings.....Regular, Slimline and Climateline (Heated). If the hose they sent you is larger than the one you had then it's obvious that they sent you a Regular and you had a Slimline.moosie wrote:Thanks for the info. Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
You don't adjust anything except the hose diameter if you had been using a non heated slimline hose and you now have a non heated regular diameter hose. The industry standard diameter for a the "regular" diameter hose is 22 mm. The choices in the setup menu are obvious.

Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
It may be obvious to you but it's Greek to me. My original is a slimline unheated now they sent me a much wider unheated hose. Please help and tell me what to do. What setting do I need to go to. With the settings as they are now with the wider hose the Resmed makes so much noise I cannot sleep nor my poor wife. Please tell me how to quiet the wider hose.
Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
On my AirSense 10 machine the choices are Slimline and Standard for the non heated hoses. So you would choose "Standard" and that's the 22 mm if your machine choices are like mine.
This is available in the "My Settings" options on the LCD screen. If you don't see it then you would need to go into the clinical setup menu.
If that doesn't quiet the machine then change it back to the slimline setting and go back to your old hose.
There's no urgent need to change to a new hose unless you have a problem with the old hose or it is damaged or something.
3 months is nothing for a hose. I have one heated hose for my ResMed S9 machine that has well over 12,000 hours on it. We are talking years of use here and not months.
They sent you a new hose just to sell you something...it's not critical that you change it and personally I would keep the ResMed slimline because it is lighter and more flexible.
Sounds like they sent you a no name generic cheap hose...they didn't do you any favors. Those generic bigger hoses are cheaper than the name brand ResMed hoses...I wouldn't have one myself after using a slimline hose made by ResMed.

Re: diameter of CPAP hose???
Thanks so much for your help. Had another conversation with my DME and now that I am a little wiser about the Resmed thnks to you they are sending me the correct hose and I will be returning the wider hose.
