blood pressure rising when asleep

I use a resmed s9 vpap. inhale on 16, exhale 6 and oxygen at 3l/min. I am having problem with blood pressure rising while I am asleep. did overnight oxyimeter test. it is dropping into the 80s. Dr has me playing with pressure. i will see him late next wk. anyone out there had this problem.

How do you get a blood pressure reading from an 02 test? How can you tell it's rising while you are asleep?

When you awake, you are no longer asleep, you are fidgeting around finding the tools, you are no longer at rest. The test would require a monitor like the hospital uses, hooked up all night, at times it checks BP. then it sleeps until the next time. Stores data. Odd's are your BP drops when asleep, unless you have a apnea event, then it will spike. Jim

A Pulse Ox monitor that records data is a better option it will show your heart rate.

Rising to what levels? What are your systolic and diastolic numbers? Just saying they're "rising" is meaningless.
How often are you waking and checking?

If you're dreaming (or having nightmares) when you woke up, that could very well be a cause for the increases.
Do you realize that our sleep cycles are in 90 - 120 minute time periods.

And, like Jim said, by the time you move around getting things situated to take your BP, it could very well elevate it.

Are you taking any BP or other medications?

You're probably being hyperventilated into central apnea with that huge pressure support.

Your hypothesis is flawed. Waking up is going to change your blood pressure, especially if you startle awake because of apneas, ergo, there's no way to know what your blood pressure is while you're asleep, unless someone takes it *while you're asleep*.

I don't know where my last 2 replies went. I will try to catch up. I am 70 yrs old over weight, high blood pressure and diabetes. I take amlodipine and clonidine for high bp. The Dr had me use a recording oximeter overnight. It showed numerous low numbers (80 and below) He is the one having me to change my bipap pressures. My blood pressure doesn't go up all the time. Seems the longer I am asleep the better chance bp has of rising. Hope this helps.

My readings over the last mth are AHI- 2.2 Cent AHI - 0 Resp Rate 14 Leaks 39L/Min

No, not entirely. You didn't answer the question(s). How high is "high"?
Lots of us have diabetes and take meds for that and BP.
Low oximeter numbers don't necessarily correlate to BP numbers.

Are you using Sleepyhead software to look at your data?
