Any opinions on this SleepyHead Data?

Post by KC1977 » Thu Dec 14, 2017 2:03 pm

Hi Folks,

A week in I'm getting more comfortable with it all and probably had my best night yet. I don't feel as chronically tired and I'm not as snuffly in the mornings.

The only changes I've made to my DreamStation are that the ramp was from 4 and I now have a minimum of 10. I get some leaks around the bridge of my nose at the high pressures with my full face mask but I'm gently adjusting this. I get more leaks when I sleep on my side than my back but I know without the CPAP machine I snore badly on my back. My wife tells me I am still snoring with the mask on at times.

Any opinions or advice appreciated.

Thanks,
KC

Your leaks are out of control. The rest of your data is pretty much meaningless until you fix your leaks.

Also try adding your mask type and any other CPAP equipment in your signature so forum's experienced members can more easily help you resolve any issues.

Hello KC! You said you were adjusting to the leaks. Are you sure you aren't waking up constantly and not realizing it? I would not be able to sleep through all those leaks. As DS already said, whatever info you can provide will help the veterans here help you.

Thanks folks - I've added my equipment and some notes. Is there anything else I should add?

I am definitely waking up to adjust the mask because the air on my eyes is very uncomfortable. I have a follow up appointment on 3rd January and I'll ask about a new mask. I feel like I need more straps around the bridge of my nose, not just the top and bottom.

Thanks!

Finding a mask that fits comfortably all night without any leaks is the hardest part of this therapy. If you can't get it to fit right without leaks in a few days (with different sizes and strap tensions -- too loose OR too tight) ... try a different one.

Hang in there, once you get the right mask and tweak your machine settings and sleep habits, you're all set!

Your leaks are bad but not the 84% bad that the statistics is showing.
You are using a Respironics machine...SleepyHead defaults to a ResMed red line threshold number of 24 and that number is way too conservative for a Respironics machine.
SleepyHead is making out like the leaks are horribly horrible and they aren't. They aren't pretty but they sure aren't 84% of the night.

Let's get you a more appropriate red line threshold number for SleepyHead to use to calculate the leaks. The real large leaks as flagged by the machine show up on the events graph on the right. No way are your leaks equaling 84% of the night.

Go to Preferences in SleepyHead and then the CPAP tab...look on the right upper for red line threshold number. You will see 24 and that's too low..way too low.
Respironics large leak territory with your mask and your pressure is going to be most likely 70 L/min or even more. Respironics never gives us an exact leak threshold number because it varies with the pressure used and masked used but 70 would be a good conservative number for you to use.
Or turn the leak statistic off and just eyeball the events graph.
