Glad to hear of your accepting of this role, Pugsy!

This forum was so wonderfully helpful to me back when I was diagnosed about 5 years ago. I've popped in a few times over the last year, and, well, it was like the neighborhood was now filled with bullies. I was no longer recommending cpaptalk.com to my friends and colleagues were were starting down the Sleep Apnea journey.

I think now it'll be safe to point them here once again.

John

We were moderated in the past too.

People would say this forum was not moderated at all and that simply wasn't true. It was very loosely moderated and took some time to get anything done but people were watching and listening.

There was a lot of "self moderation" here.....that's how come we have a spam ...everyone who uses a spam button to remove spam is moderating the forum when they do that.

Other forms of self moderation would include someone sending a note to Carolyn about something on the forum that might need looked at.
I did it..and I know I wasn't the only one who sent Carolyn messages.
The only real difference now is people know that there is an official moderator that is public and has some post editing ability and not shy about using it.
Instead of myself (or someone else) pointing Carolyn to some really nasty language via private message and having to wait for her to read it and then remove the nasty language....I can remove it immediately.

We have always been "moderated" in some fashion.
Very loosely for sure and at times it appeared that no one ever watched or cared but that's not the case.

I practice self moderation, if I see or hear something so offencive I can't live with it, I hit the off button, if that doesn't work I pull the plug out of the wall. That never fails. I have a high treshold for words, sticks and stones not so much. Jim

And it's far, far, far past time.

"moderation" doesn't have to mean the heavy handed "Oh LOOK AT ME, I CARRY A BIG ASSED HAMMER" that prevails on apneaboard, or the straightjacket affair that was in effect on the ASAA board for a while...

It can be the gentle, largely unobtrusive moderation that exists over on freecpapadvice.com/forum, and what I fully expect from Pugsy... only acting when *needed*... and it's been needed for some time now.

Guests are still welcome to lurk.
This is a powerful tool that I believe many use--and hopefully more in the future.

These days, I believe, even older newly-diagnosed should have the savvy to get through the registration process. But I truly hope that process is going through within hours.

My earliest posts were guest posts, and it was the same-day help I got as a guest that made all the difference for me. I might not have figured out the value of this place without being able to post as guest back then; I had never registered at a forum before.

Times have changed. But quick registration may save lives.

I recall my registration was instantaneous ... I think. During the first week I remember posting as guest by accident as I was still figuring out how the forum worked (kind of like how AMESS started here but not nearly as bad). A second time I posted as guest was when forum members were playing around in a thread to see what list of usernames would show up on the left when posting as a guest (but LSAT has notified me that he is investigating all those who have been impersonating me all these years ).

I think there are a lot of us that know that you have recently posted under about 12 different Guest names. It seems that your posts under DS are moderate and your altar ego posts often nasty. I'm waiting for you to register again under another name so you can continue the hoax.

Seriously, you (and the whole lot of yous) need more air cuz you're losing cells at an increasing rate.

Sorry. Didn't mean to poke ya wit da stick ... but I have some rocks to get rid of too.

Quick hide yourself .... I hear Pugsy coming.

I agree. Not only does it address the split personalities, but it also helps to minimize the stumbling visitor. I grow tired of responding to guests whom will never stumble back again.

The split personality idea is interesting. I also like the modern idea of different bathrooms and specifically all individual "single seater" bathrooms. This has been a positive social change for me in the last few years.

Lately if the women's is occupied I don't hesitate a second using the mens. I had always been told the mens was <word not appropriate for mature forum> but I find out that the mens is EXACTLY like the womens? Who knew? (at least at the hospital)

I am boring. Only one personality and I can barely control that ~~~

...but for people who "identify" as split and multiple I would think it is their right?

I also like those characters that have puppets. Like lambchop. Who looks like sleepyhead
So it makes me wonder if Shari Lewis would have wanted two IDs or most likely would have worked it out in just one?
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.
