I have been getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep according to Fitbit every night but still exhausted. Dr today prescribed me 0.5 mg Xanax. Won't that just make things worse if I have sleep apnea?
I've been on Xanax for about 6 years. Always the .5 which I take half most nights but sometimes a whole if I feel really restless. I'm not a junkie, never increased the dosage and I don't feel that I'm having adverse effects. I simply do not get sleepy at night. I've tried everything else so I feel just fine taking it. I average 6-7 hours a night. For me it's about not staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning. If I dont take it sometimes I do fall asleep and sometimes it's just hours of feeling restless.
Have you tried melatonin? 12 mg usually does the trick for me to fall asleep pretty quick.

3-5 mg does the trick... most scripted (or unscripted) advice calls for much higher doses (10-15) but I suggest you try much less as it can backfire and cause other problems, and only a very small amt will do the job.

Has anyone ever used .5mg Xanax AND 3mg melatonin? I don't want to up the Xanax, but I've been having trouble falling asleep lately.

Maybe no biggie, since minor, and sort of the purpose anyway, but still a more-than-worthy fyi, imo:
The concomitant use of melatonin and benzodiazepines or nonbenzodiazepine hypnotics may result in a transient enhancement of sedation and impairment of memory, coordination, and attention within 1 hour of coadministration.-- https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions ... essional=1

While the tie is nice, I thought the glasses made the look. Although I'm not sure it's for you because it looks like an air-head.

Melatonin is just a synthetic chemical in the brain when you're tired right? If so wouldn't it just be like taking Xanax if you're already tired?

Maybe a pressurized-air head.

Melatonin is a hormone, not a synthetic brain chemical!

That seems like a pretty heavy dose. I think most recommend starting with a dose of about 0.3 mg and working up to about 5mg, if needed for insomnia. Here's just one reference. Dr Google has plenty. http://www.melatoninfaq.com/

Correction melatonin is a hormone made in gland in brain.

Here is dosage info I found on WebMD
https://www.m.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ing ... /melatonin

For sleeping problems in people with sleep-wake cycle disturbances: 2 mg to 12 mg taken at bedtime for up to 4 weeks has been used.
