How long to adjust to cpap?

How long to adjust to cpap?
I'm 5 days into my apap therapy and have a most got 4 hours of sleep a night with it on! Wondering how much time did it take to adjust to cpap and start sleeping with it on ? Thanks!

Make notes in a note book when you wakeup about things like what woke you, how long you slept, how you feel, etc. so you can improve on them or ask more questions here.
ps. you can tell who is not sleeping well by their answers.

It's not necessarily a black and white thing, like one day you hate it and the next day you're sleeping soundly. It took me a week or so to go "okay, this isn't too bad," but I think it took me a couple months for me to stop caring about it entirely. My AHI actually went up a bit once I started sleeping deeply again. I also had a similar thing with not sleeping very long at first. So if you're not one of the people who are like "I used CPAP for one night and instantly had the same energy I did as a kid!" it might be that your discomfort is counteracting that. It'll get better!
Also, don't forget that even if you're not one of the "I suddenly had the energy of a kid" people, it doesn't mean that your apnea wasn't hurting you body, or that CPAP isn't helping it. It's just one of those things we have to do, even if we don't feel immediate effects. Like exercising, eating our vegetables, not smoking, taking our meds, etc. The people who immediately feel great from CPAP are like the people who love how exercise makes them feel and have no problem motivating themselves to do it. They're lucky because they get immediate gratification from a healthy habit.
(Personally, I find CPAP use way easier than most of the other healthy things I should be doing!)
And if you are sleeping another 4 hours without CPAP (don't know if you are) you'll probably still feel bad, because 4 hours of not suffocating doesn't cancel out the 4 hours you were suffocating. It's okay if you need to build up to using it, but until you're using it 100% of the time you're asleep, it may not have any noticeable effect.

I'm still adjusting, but I only started a day before you, 6 days into it for me. I sleep ok with it, but my AHI isn't getting much better, and I still wake up a lot in the night. Last night I apparently took off my mask and turned off the machine after an hour of therapy, and I don't remember doing it! So much to get used to, but it looks like it'll just take time and practice. Good luck to the both of us, hopefully we can both acclimate to the therapy soon.
