My son uses the bag idea too and it works for him, just takes a few minutes and the hic ups are gone. My hubby had them for a day and a half, talk about going crazy. We tried everything, finally took him the clinic and the doc gave him some muscle relaxing drug, that did the trick for him, but he had one heck of a sore chest for a bit . With all of your other problems you don't need something else to tackle your patience. Give the bag idea a go and hopefully it will work.
Good luck
I can't imagine suffering that long. Mine always hurt, and if they go past a minute or two, they get worse. I also tend to get them as I get up out of bed. Within seconds of standing up.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Many thanks for all the input!! And no, I didn't take anything, from anyone, badly. It's all good!

I woke up last night (3am of course) and hiccupped TWICE, then it stopped. I'm grateful, but it was still weird.

If this keeps happening OR gets any worse, I'll need to check in with my doctor about it. For now, I like the paper bag idea so that's my next step. I'll have to get one (probably a pack) and put one in my nightstand drawer so it's right there (my getting up in the middle of the night is problematic).

Just use acupressure 20 to 30 seconds and go back to sleep ... no need for paper bags or scary monsters/forum members.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

That's very interesting. I've used accupressure to aid in relieving headaches; never considered it could help hiccups, but then I rarely get them.

Madalot, if you try that technique, could you let us know your experience with it?

Happy to! Next time I am plagued by hiccups in the middle of the night (or any time for that matter) I'll give it a try and see if it works! I'll post the results....

I just found this thread while experiencing a similar issue. I've noticed that my hiccups (in general) are usually caused by a sticky esophagus, such as when eating peanut butter, saltines, or other foods that really need lubrication. In these cases, drinking water typically helps immediately. In extreme cases, it helps me to drink a glass of water "upside down" (from the far edge of the glass--plug nose first); I think this helps because it changes the way the esophagus moves during swallowing.

I didn't have night time hiccups with my CPAP at first, but lately I've been having more. I assume it's because aerophagia is drying out my esophagus, making it sticky. Drinking water helps after I've woken up and for a couple hours afterward. I came to this thread to find out whether anyone has a preventive solution that would work before hiccups start. I've experimented briefly with moisture settings on my CPAP, but haven't learned anything yet. I'll also look around here for more ideas to reduce aerophagia.
