waking up wheezing

Post by davebud » Sun Dec 10, 2006 2:06 pm

This is my first post. I've just recently started using a humidifier to reduce my morning congestion. Now I've got the congestion under control, but I'm wheezing when I wake up. Any thoughts?

Hi dave,
Any chance you have asthma? I have asthma that can be triggered by heat and humidity - so I can't use a humidifier without waking up wheezing.

Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

The other thing that you might want to check... is if you're using CFLEX/EPR... what level is it at?? I know that CFLEX has a tendency to make me wheeze.

The humidifier might well be causing the problem - I don't use mine, but is it possible to set it to a lower rate? I would tell your MD about it too... at one extreme is the possibility of congestive heart trouble (for which people are sometimes put on a diuretic to get rid of too much water around their hearts), but it could also be causing congestion in your lungs even if the nasal part cleared up, so give the MD a call.

I hadn't considered that the humidity could trigger an asthmatic response. I've lived in a dry climate for a long time so that hasn't been an issue.

I can adjust the humidity level so I'll do that and see what happens.

I don't think its the CFLEX level. I didn't have this problem before adding the humidifier, although I suppose it could be a combination of the two.

Thanks for the suggestions!

depending on where you live, I use my humidifier mostly with the heat off, I use a aussie heated hose to warm the air, otherwise I get too much moisture.
