Which is the best mask?
The velcro on my old full mask has worn down, and now I'm shopping for a new rig.
Here are what I'm considering:
Mirage Quattro
AirTouch F20
AirFit F20
Which is best for higher pressure, non-leaking sleep comfort?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Which is the best mask?
All masks are made to work in "high" pressure...Bipaps go to 25. How high is your pressure? I use a Quattro..I love it. My pressure stays below15. But...what's great for me may be terrible for you. All heads and faces are different. You just need to try them on under pressure at your DME.

Re: Which is the best mask?
I have heard reports of the AirTouch having problems sealing at pressures over 15 but then I also know a guy using it and loving it and he uses an ASV machine and it goes to 25 nearly every night...and always at least over 20.
So you just don't know for sure how you will do until you try something.

The one that fits you best and is the most comfortable.michaeldwilson wrote: Which is best for higher pressure, non-leaking sleep comfort?
For example, the Quattro fits me so well that it will almost stay on without any straps. However, I though it was too bulky and moved the the smaller Quattro Air, which I have to tighten a bit more to hold pressure. Still, I find the Qauttro Air more comfortable so I've stuck with that.
Odds are, whatever is recommended, you will find something that fits you better.

Re: Which is the best mask?
Thanks for the info! It sounds like when the Quattro works, it works well. Is the Quattro actual mask the same kind as the AirFit? What I'm actually asking is whether the Quattro rubber/silicone/whateveritis lasts as long or longer than the AirFit? I wish these lasted a little longer for me. They tear and seem to lose their effectiveness in a relatively short period of time.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Which is the best mask?
I have been using my current Mirage Quattro mask for well over a year. My silicone cushions last well over 9 months ( I change them at that time but they could last longer). I rarely wash my cushions and only wipe them with a baby wipe. At about 3 months I boil them and they come out crystal clear...like new. There are some people on the board that use a cushion for years.michaeldwilson wrote:Thanks for the info! It sounds like when the Quattro works, it works well. The cushions last a long time for me. I am wondering what is causing excess wear and tear. What is your mask cleaning process?michaeldwilson wrote:Thanks for the info! Re: Which is the best mask?
I wash them in warm water with baby shampoo, per direction from the therapist. One tore, another had pieces come off (like little bites), and the last one has pulled away from the hard plastic. I'll definitely try something else if it works.ChicagoGranny wrote:The cushions last a long time for me. I am wondering what is causing excess wear and tear. Baby shampoo/warm water is fine.
Any aggressive scrubbing?

No, not a bit, but I do pat them down with a towel.ChicagoGranny wrote:Baby shampoo/warm water is fine.

Re: Which is the best mask?
Seriously, to be Captain Obvious, I don't know what the problem is.
Re: Which is the best mask?
Hi Mike, I use the FF Mirage Quattro with much success, I tried the F20, loved the seal I got but the diffuser was different than the quattro and made a noise that kept management awake, so back to the Quattro. I recently started using a pad-a-cheek liner and can really tell a difference, I have actually loosened my straps...

Why don't you just buy some more sets of headgear? (if your current mask is working well for you)michaeldwilson wrote:The velcro on my old full mask has worn down, and now I'm shopping for a new rig.

But, be sure to have some spare masks and sets of headgear and cushions/seals for future use.
And, if you're throwing your headgear in the washer/dryer, be sure to put the Velcro together to keep lint from getting into it. The lint can also be cleaned out with a "pick" or some sharp/pointy device, which makes it hold better again.

We have three cats but I don't think they are guilty in this specific instance.ChicagoGranny wrote:Do I need to ask what kind of towel?
