Mouth Taping and Bloating

Post by beneyw » Sun Dec 10, 2006 6:24 am

I know, from reading previous posts, some people who use tape have a 'blowfish' sort of phenomenon that occurs. Add me to the list. I have tried all sorts of FF masks but the leaks are enough to move tree branches. Lately, after several hours of decent sleep, I awake with the feeling my lungs are about to burst with the inability to do all the exhaling necessary thru the nares while using the mouth tape. Remove the tape and the snoring begins which is counterproductive.

This may sound crazy but is there anyway to 'burst' a lung with this sensation and reaction to the taping?

(My kingdom for a FF mask that won't leak and yeah, I got the Hybrid and it leaks like a sieve.)

Hi Beneyw,
What is you pressure setting? How long have you been on xPAP? I notice the opposite effect actually. I feel like the pressure is much less after a few hours rather than feeling sire or "inflated'. I stick my lips each night with denture strips or I will leak out my mouth.

Hang in there.

Pressure is set between 6 and 12 cm., not too high; been on cpap since May, 2006.

I need to use the tape or something that will do the same to prevent the mouth breathing and have been noticing this 'bloating' more as of late than before.

... and then there is always a safety release valve at your rear end too ... so not worry about exploding lungs ...

Your lungs won't burst, they are held by the rib cage. Unless someone comes in and saws the your chest open you will do ok. Try holding your tongue fowardand at the roof of your mouth all day, it may help. Jim

Thanks for the graphic of a rib cage cutter working on my chest. That should be a great preview of my REM sleep later tonite. I hope he uses anesthetic so I can sleep through the ordeal or I can dream about the air filling my stomach and me rising above the bed floating...oh wait, that won't be too high unless the tubing becomes unattached and oh my, that means I fall down hard. Wow..thanks for all the help guys so now all I need worry about is a stomach full of gas. I wonder if my cat should read this and take precautions...

I threw that in because that's what they did to me 2 months before I started CPAP at 14 cm. I was wondering when the parts were going to open up. Jim

They never opened up, I just had to get bigger shirts.
