We have our humidifier set at 45% and use a bacterial prevention solution added to the water. (Made specifically for the humidifier, not some recipe found on the internet!)
The humidity helps prevent static shocks which also then protects our electrical stuff. One winter I wrecked an alarm clock and a brand new electric blanket -- just by a static shock. I'd hate to wreck the machine with a shock!!

Why would you use and antibacterial agent in the water when none is needed?
