GOING TO DEMAND THE RIGHT HELP

Post by AMESS » Sat Oct 14, 2017 10:01 am

Last night I went to the sleep lab with my husband, They did testing on him, but did not get enough data. He has to go back.

He got Gina (who was also my sleep tech) who asked about me. So I let her have it. Told her about the leaks, the ill fitting masks (6) and how lousy I still feel since I stared this 6 weeks ago. Her words! "You will never feel good until you get property fitted for a mask that keeps your mouth shut". In this case a full face mask which no one ever mentioned before. She pulled out a picture that was taken when I was there with the mouth open. Told her the so therapist at the medical place never mentioned any of this.. They just brought out a few masks , I tried them on and picked one. WRONG !

So next week I am going to the drs office and let them fit me with the right mask. I will try them on till I am blue in the face and UNTIL I find the perfect mask for me. Then I will try it with a variety of pressures. I will then get the make and number and will ask specifically for that one.

No more games, no more being pissed and sick all the time. Bim Bam Boom!

Just one thing - do tell them you want to be lying down when they fit you as your face changes a lot when you lie down vs sitting and it can make quite a diff. to the masks.

Absolutely, and ideally with a machine set to your pressure so you can assess for leaks. And you WILL need to give the mask more than one or two nights' trial before saying it simply doesn't work. I firmly believe a lot of the difficulty you're having is that you're changing too many variables too quickly.

Lying down changes face shape--even for skinny people, when shifting flesh is less obvious.
If they don't have a recliner, lie on the FLOOR.
It makes them very uncomfortable.

When I started this the Drs office gave me a list of medical places with alleged therapists that are supposed to fit masks and then sell them or take insurance. They also mentioned none of them were very good but marked off two that were just okay. I get it now for sure.

Sleep study no bed? really? You must be mistaken. A sleep study requires a night away in their bed. You can try a mask on in several places

BZZZZT! Wrong answer. They had a bed in the room, but I can't sleep on a mattress so I made myself comfortable on the floor. They really didn't know what to say or do.

For my titration, they knew what to expect...

""doctors offices dont fit masks""

Not correct. I had two sleep doctor's offices fit me with a full face mask. As always, it depends on the setup of the office.

then those quacks make money doing tests and selling DME stuff when they should be independent doctors who look out for you not their wallet
All doctors look out for their wallet. You would be well served to go to your local community college and take a basic microeconomics course. With the exceptions that are currently being investigated and Noble Prize awarded behavioral economics, all people act in their own self-interest, be that financial or otherwise. Not only do you make a lot of errors about PAP therapies, you seem to totally lack any understanding of human economic behavior.

Well I don't believe you have read any of my comments about the evils of nasal masks given out to mouth leaker, I warn of it over and over. It's probable the second most cause of XPAP failure, behind not being to able to control your own body's thinking. (To get buy in life, you need to be Flexible, and Adapt to new things, Can't, isn't the answer to Life Needs, it's a Lame Excuse.)

Everyone needs two good fitting masks, the FIRST should cover the nose and mouth (FF Mask)(Because they insure the air is trapped in your airway to hold it open, NOT leaking out of your Mouth,) Then if you want, a good working nasal mask. You also need the software to allow you to read your own data, that way you can monitor your leaks and keep then under control, but KEEP in mind, if the leak rate gets too high the software can't monitor the data correctly.

You are given a Nasal mask at the DME because it's quick and dirty, out the door, more profit! Later when and if you find out you aren't being treated, you can waste money truing chin straps, foam collars, Dental Crap ect, if lucky you get a FF mask, many just whine a lot and give up. Can't Won Again... Jim
