how to determine if provided unit is new?
how to determine if provided unit is new?
My resmed airsense 10 is being shipped from the provider (apria), and they indicated that the unit must be new, since the insurance requires it.
However, the unit must be opened prior to shipping in order to set the prescription levels.
After reading some horror stories here about used units being provided, I'm interested to know how you verify that.
I could see reading the card and looking to see if the card has no prior recordings ( I found 2 years on the loaner). Not sure if that is the standard way you would argue
with the provider about receiving a used vs promised new unit. Also, one could put a new card in a used unit. Any other sanity checks that are used?

It''s very easy to tell...Just press a couple buttons. When you get the machine we'll tell you the secret.

He's not being facetious. There is a way to access the clinician's part of the machine to see the machine hours (not to be confused with your usage hours.

Re: how to determine if provided unit is new?
There are two methods with the Airsense. Some machines were updated to include the settings in the patient menu while others may need to accessed via the Clinical Settings. You are looking for something that says RUN HOURS. These are the machine hours.
First thing to try: Select MY OPTIONS. Then scroll to the bottom to ABOUT. Select ABOUT. It should show RUN HOURS.
If it doesn't show that, then you need to get into the clinical settings.
Hold the Home button and round button together for 5-8 seconds. That should bring you into the clinical settings. Then select SETTINGS. Scroll down to ABOUT. You will see RUN HOURS.
When I originally got my machine, I had to use the 2nd method. When they did an update, I could access it through the regular patient settings. I would expect the new machines to have the first option, but you never know, so I included both methods.

I wonder if there is a video online for that.

Received the unit today. Thanks to everyone for the info, esp. sewtired. The 1st method did not show about (it was hidden), the second method worked and showed 0 run hours.
I did notice there is no SD card included. Plenty of replacement supplies and mask, but no SD card. Is it normal to get your own and install it?

Check the packaging.
Sometimes it is wrapped up in something you might throw away.

@chunkyfrog
No. Checked every crevice thoroughly. No card. I've read other threads, where users said apria said sometimes they don't ship cards anymore or something like that.
Going to have to call and complain. Almost perfect so far. It might be nitpicking, but I figure the insurance payed for a 'new' unit, it should be like advertised as new.

SD card not included does not mean it is not new!user232 wrote:@chunkyfrog

This thread was started when U-232 was a guest;
so the title cannot be changed by the OP.
The missing card issue is recent, but the OP has kindly continued in the same thread.

Re: how to determine if provided unit is new?
My machine came with a SD card, but that was several years ago. Could be it's not included any longer. I definitely would contact your DME but in the meantime, you can buy one at Walmart or Target for a couple of dollars. My doctor even gave me one at my last visit. Might be worth a phone call.

Re: how to determine if provided unit is new?
Some DME are removing the SD cards, and also I saw a communique from Resmed a few months ago that they were no longer providing them since they have the cell phone link going for setting the information to the sleep Drs and DMEs.
