Just Diagnosed; Mask and Machine

Post by Rukel » Thu Sep 28, 2017 2:12 pm

Hey all. So I was recently diagnosed (as of a day ago) with moderate to severe OSA and bruxism. That being said, they're wanting to sign me up for a titration. I'm planning on speaking with my doctor to hopefully just get an RX for an APAP and just self titrate using Sleepyhead.

In any case, I'm looking through all the available machines and such, and think I'm settling on the ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset for the machine and the Airfit P10/Dreamwear masks. I'm an active sleeper however, so I'm not sure if these choices in masks are what would be best.

I love the idea of having the hose connect to the top of the mask via Dreamwear as this allows me to side-sleep and not worry about a hose at all. Not to mention that it's all rubber, so no hard plastic, it's easy to store, and moving is a non-issue. The problem with this choice is that I heard it's LOUD. Now I'm not a light sleeper, but I imagine a constant hiss from two ports on the mask would probably either keep me or my partner in bed up. I wanna avoid this if at all possible.

However, the Airfit P10 is supposed to be king of the quiet. It's also supposed to be relatively comfortable for all things considered. The hose I feel might be an issue (which could probably be solved using a hose stand), and the elasticity of the bands that keep the mask on supposedly wear out over time, much faster than post people assume (I've heard they've released clips to help with this problem). If I'm not mistaken, this is technically a prong mask as well. I'm not sure I'm wanting shoved up my nose.

I haven't gone into a fitting yet, so I don't know how either will perform in real time. So, what do you all think? Am I missing a few things? Am I too narrow in my search; are there other masks that might work better? Is the noise from the Dreamwear really as bad as people claim it to be?

All help would be appreciated.

I found the DreamWear almost silent..
Not as silent as the P10 of course but not really all that loud. I have used other nasal pillow masks that were a lot louder.

Either will work for an active sleeper. I toss and turn pretty much all night long and I just ended a 4 months trial with the Dreamwear gel nasal pillows. Went back to the P10 mainly because I think I need a slightly smaller nasal pillow in the DreamWear and they don't offer an extra small. I was getting just a little more mask movement than I liked.
But I did like it well enough to use it for 4 months...and I will keep it just in case I want to try it again sometime.

Mask "noise" and machine "noise" seem to be very subjective. You won't know how you "hear" things until you actually use the product.

In terms of the 2 mask choices you have narrowed it down to...excellent choices either one.
There are pros and cons to every mask out there. I haven't found one yet that is totally perfect.

If you want to get the P10...get it and I think I have a DreamWear cushion mask with medium frame that someone sent me. Once you get registered and can private message people send me one and remind me who you were and I will send you the DreamWear cushion mask and you can just buy the nasal pillow for it if you want to try it with the pillows after testing it with the cushion for mask noise.
