new member and first night

Post by bill-e » Fri Dec 08, 2006 1:45 pm

Hi all,

I just picked up a REMstatPlus M series with cflex and heated humidifier from a DME and tonight will be my first night with it. I had 2 nights of sleep study. The first night I didn't exhibit apnea until early morning so it was too late to try on the CPAP. I went back for a titration night and ended up at 11. That's all I know..I guess I need to ask for the results.

That night in the sleep lab I was fitted with a Comfort Gel nasal mask and as far as I can tell, it took me a half hour or so to fall asleep but I slept all night, waking at about 5am (6hrs of sleep). I hope to have the same luck tonight.

I'm a little disappointed at the size of the unit, I was hoping for something smaller as I'm on the road about 70% of the time....lots and lots of airport security lines and I never check baggage. I've got enough status on the airlines that I hope they wont say anything with the extra carry-on.

Well, that's my story, I'll let you know how it goes.

thanks
Bill

Best wishes to you, Bill.

There are some smaller 'travel' machines available, but you may want to try yours for a while. Then you will have a bit more experience in order to decide what features are important to you.

RE: air travel--The xPAP is considered a medical device and does NOT count as a carry on. You should carry it on, and there should be no problem.

I'm sure I speak for many of us here when I say that we will be looking forward to hearing the results of your first night.

Thanks. Yea, I already got a copy of the prescription and printed out the TSA stuff. Hopefully I'll never have to go through the frustration of trying to explain this to TSA.

Not to worry! I just got back from a trip to Israel and the ONLY time my CPAP machine was looked at was in Nashville, TN, and even then the TSA agent said "We see these all the time." He rubbed his wand on it and thanked me. In Atlanta or Tel Aviv, they never wanted to see it!

Enjoy a good nights sleep! Oh, take an extra extension cord with you when you travel as not all motels/hotels have outlets next to the bed!

Jeff

You might want to take a look at the GoodKnight 420E. I was at my Sleep Clinic today when the representative came in wanting the Clinic to evaluate the machine, and guess who the test subject is going to be?! Am really looking forward to getting the machine next week and trying it. Liked everything I saw and heard about it--real test will be in using.

Ok, first night and my wife is very happy with the CPAP She said something about it being quiet.

I went to bed early, at about 10:30 and that may have been a mistake. Even though I was tired it seemed I layed in bed for a long time before I fell asleep. In actuality I don't know how long it was because I didn't look at the clock.

The first time I remember waking up and looking at the clock was 0330 and it was on and off sleeping from then till I got up at 0700.

In retrospect I had a lot of coffee yesterday (you know, cuz I'm always tired) so that may have hurt a little.

But as far as the machine, it was fine, Comfort Gel nasal mask was fine, humidified air was fine...no comfort issues at all so I guess it was a success of sorts. I did set the cflex to 2 after laying in bed a while and I think that helped.

Sounds like a good night for a beginner! Hopefully, each night will get better, but watch the caffine! I stop any caffinated drinks at 2PM. I have found a wonderful drink called "Natural Calm" that I take just before bed and it helps relax me. I also take some natural herbal tablets that help me get to sleep quickly. It works for me, but everyone has to find their own method. Best of luck, and welcome to the Hosehead club!

Jeff
