The Dreamstation recognizes the difference of a standard tubing and a heated tubing, once plugged in. With a heated tubing, you can change your humidification settings without being in the clinician mode. You have a choice of setting the humidifier AND tube temperatures. When a standard tube is being used, it only allows for the setting of humidifier.
Oh really now?? Trust me dude...I know these machines backwards and forwards and inside and out.

Guess it doesn't count that I currently own and have used a PR System One 60 series with and without a heated hose. Actually have had probably 3 or 4 of the 60 series and a couple of 50 series over the years.
And the way it works and the way the DreamStation works with or without a heated hose is the same.
Respironics did NOT change the heated hose humidification with the model change and I have read the DreamStation provider manuals thoroughly to see if they did....and they didn't.

You didn't say this in your orginal post

You said this
There is nothing in the clinician settings to adjust for a heated tube
and it was this statement that I felt was inaccurate/incomplete and misleading and just wanted to clarify things for someone who might not be familiar with the machine.
In the clinical settings there's lots available for adjusting.

I have ordered a heated hose and a "hose cozy." I am stoked! The heated hose was actually not very expensive and I am looking forward to using it. I find warm, moist air in my nasal passages quite comforting. Like so many others have posted, I, too, like to have my bedroom at Arctic type temperatures.

I SO appreciate everyone's input regarding the hose covers, and how to use the heated hose and settings for optimal comfort and effectiveness! I have learned so much valuable information here.

I, too, like to keep my regeneration chamber (AKA bedroom ) as nice and frosty as the long-term storage facility at the morgue.

My Dreamstation kit came with both the regular and the heated hose, but I have only used the latter. As mentioned, you can tell if it's the heated hose by the small electrical connections where it plugs into the humidifier unit. If your Dreamstation came with only the regular hose, the way I see it you have a couple of options:

1. Get a hose cozy or hose cover, for example the one here: http://padacheek.com/PAC_Hosecover.html

2. Get the actual heated hose, which will in fact cost you less, it seems: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-dre ... gkQAvD_BwE

Back in the days of yore, before my time and before heated tubes were invented , legend has it our CPAP ancestors had to make do with hose cozies, but now in our modern times, why do without the amenity of a heated hose?

After monkeying around with the settings a bit, I settled on "3" for the humidifier and "3" for the heated hose. Been comfortable ever since, and no rainout of course, despite sleeping in what I soothingly describe as a beer fridge.
Oh Man! I coulda had a RED hose cover! Rats! I saw your post after I ordered mine. Hmph!

My bedroom in the winter gets quite cold. We live in an old farmhouse with little or no added insulation and I think they totally forgot the bedroom. It has windows facing north and east so lots of cold wind.
Plus the house is a bitch to keep warm in the winter...so at night I turn the thermostat down to 55 which usually means the bedroom dips to 50. I just pile on the covers. I like it that way. What I don't like is the cold air going up my nose and/or causing condensation (cold mist showers no fun and the noise is awful).

I like as much humidity as the machine will put out...and a cold bedroom...recipe for rain out for sure.
Back before heated hoses were the norm we had to use the hose cozies and they worked fairly well...sure better than nothing but they added weight to the hose which can cause some dragging on the mask and since all the masks I have ever used have minimal headgear and weigh next to nothing the dragging from a hose cozy was a bit annoying.

Some people still use a hose cozy over their heated hose and that's fine.....I don't because of the weight issue and the feel of the hose itself doesn't bug me. Mostly it rests on the mattress up around the top of my bed pillow. Tried the routing the hose up with a hose management system and I found it more annoying for me than just laying it on the bed. With the way I do it I never really have any issues with the hose and tossing and turning. I think only maybe twice in over 8 years have I woke myself up trying to strangle myself with the hose wrapped around my neck.

Anyway...I understand you guys who like morgue temps in the bedroom...I pretty much like the same thing but what I don't like is the cold air hitting my nose and giving me ice cube nose syndrome. That wakes me often and anything that wakes me up is unwanted.

I still keep both a Padacheek heated hose and a ResMed skinny light weight hose cover....just in case something happens and I need it or change my mind about using one with my heated hose.

My Amara View gave me cold-nose-syndrome. I HATE cold-nose-syndrome! That is a sure way to keep me awake.

Whether she understood what you said or not, She's correct, as a glance at the clinician manual will tell you.

What you may not realize is that Pugsy goes through machines like most of us go through underwear.

She knows what she's talking about.

The Dreamstation doesn't 'recognize' a standard tube, it doesn't even know there's a tube attached. It does know there's a heated tube, because of the electrical connection, and sets itself appropriately, just like the Resmeds do.

I use a heated hose year 'round.
Hubby sometimes maxes out the AC, so it can feel like winter.
The cold nose wakes me up, and tends to LEAK.

It's as easy as washing any hose. Yes, it is ok to submerge the hose in soapy water; in fact, the user manual for the humidifier includes cleaning notes for the heated hose and specifies to do so--see page 8.

I'm in that club too. Cold nose, cold toes--heck, any cold extremity keeps me from falling, or staying, asleep.

With a heated tube for my humidifier, I never have to have a cold nose again! [doing happy dance steps off to bed]
