At home apnea test

Post by WillSucceed » Fri Dec 08, 2006 10:14 am

Don't know if you folks have heard of this device; I came across it today while surfing. Looks like interesting technology that could be helpful for anyone who is undiagnosed and feeling rotten during the day, with a possibility of problematic sleep as the culprit.

Wow.... that's a pretty cool little piece of technology.

Looks great! Too bad, though, that it requires a doctor's prescription. I'd love to buy one for my brother, who denies he has OSA (even though I've seen him fall asleep and stop breathing on several occasions) and refuses to get a PSG.

He's overweight, smokes a lot and is a big fan of that river in Egypt ("Da Nile"!). Any ideas on how I can get him to try this?

Not that long ago CPAP.com had this and they provided the doctor.

Did you ask them if they are still doing it?

I just now went to cpap.com and did a search in their products for sleep strip and sleepstrip. It used to be a listed product, but I couldn't find it this time. Maybe I did the search wrong.

Here was the topic when it was announced. Perhaps doctors declined to participate?

help for denial

Hi, Michael.

If your brother would read articles and do an online quiz, show him the article under the light bulb on Evaluating Your Sleep. It lists sleep apnea symptoms and has links to several online quizzes to help build awareness of sleep apnea symptoms.

The article on Sleep Studies has links to some at-home tests. You'd still need to work with a doctor. Does your brother know consequence of untreated sleep apnea may be heart disease and stroke as well as diminished quality of life?

Under the light bulb, the article by Mike Moran about Stages of CPAP is great. Sounds like he's in the denial stage. Or if he doesn't have sleep apnea, it would be good to know that for sure.
