Nose very dry

Post by Rainmom17 » Sat Sep 16, 2017 9:02 am

I use the heated hose and humidifier with my cpap, which I would assume would add good moisture to my nose. However, my nose is getting very dried out lately. This leads to some nosebleeds(minor) and just general stuffiness and discomfort. Do you think turning the heat off the heated hose might help? Any products anyone has found useful for helping a dried out nose. (I will not use a Neti pot. The one time I did, I got the only sinus infection of my life. Interestingly, the same thing happened to my brother. Who also has sleep apnea. The neti pot problems were before cpap for both of us.)
Thanks.

What setting for the humidifier humidity delivered are you using?

Reducing the temperature of the air in the heated hose is unlikely to fix the problem as it is related more to moisture than heat. You can try it though but you may get some condensation in your mask or hose if you do.

Something to get and use...Simply Saline or similar product. It's a nose spray and I use it pretty much daily because my nasal mucosa want more moisture than it gets. It's not like the Netipot thing...it's just a spray.

Humidity is set at 3.
Thanks for the spray suggestion.

I am not familiar with the choices for humidity with the DreamStation when the heated hose is connected.
Is 3 as high as it will go with the heated hose attached?
If it will go higher...increase the humidity setting.

Laugh if u want. My Dr (board certifed pulmonologist) told me to use K-Y jelly in the nose. Water based and can do the job.

.
I can't use a netipot either. First couple of times work okay, and then I start getting ear pain on both sides. I've tried several different times and the same thing with my ears happens every time.

Saline spray works good for me. (I often have nose bleeding issues in the winter, sometimes pretty bad.) There are also nasal gels, although that would have to be used only during the day, of course.
