Z1 charging with solar

Post by bndobe » Thu Sep 14, 2017 4:31 pm

Would anyone know of a method of charging a Z1 battery using solar?? Use the shell and 2 batteries but have a 5 day/night wilderness canoe trip coming up so will require recharging.

Still no response from Resmed who supply the Z1 as to whether solar charging can be done.
A local solar supplier looked at the figures and machine and suggested a 20w solar panel with regulator would do the job nicely - but would have to plug into the battery shell. That is a concern as Resmed haven't confirmed this is advisable. Would be the best solution for me.
Looks like I will have to opt for a 12v deep cycle battery pack which is small enough and should get me through the 5 nights. Will connect to shell through a cigarette lighter adapter on the battery.

Still no response from Resmed re solar charging..
12volt 12 amp hour deep cycle AGM battery weighs 3kg: Overnight 9 hours usage voltage dropped from 12.8v to 12.6volt. Cost $AU80 with cigarette plug attached.
For a 4 night canoe trip plenty of power and weight not an issue. Last entry I will make. Hope will be of use to someone.

You have tried this at home for the same time period you plan to use this right?

Keep in mind you should measure the voltage when the battery is under a load, meaning the cpap is powered ON. No load measurements are not helpful. About 10.5 volts the cpap will just shut off.
