Sore Nose

Post by barryk14 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 9:09 pm

I recently started using a Cpap machine and am finally getting a good night's sleep! that's the good news. The bad news is that my nose is getting very sore. It's sore to the touch. I've been putting Neosporin on my nose before putting in the airpiece but that doesn't seem to be helping. The masks that Cpap sells cost $180, and I'm not able to afford that. Can anyone help me out and tell me how I can get my nose to not be sore?

When I first started out, Ayr's saline gel (recomended by many here on this forum) with aloe took care of my sore nose in just a couple of days. I think the aloe really helped to heal it back up quickly. When I was kid, my mom used to use pure aloe from the plants she grew in the back yard for minor scrapes and burns ... always healed quickly with minimal to no scar tissue.

If it gets to the point that neither the ayr or the neosporin is working... go and see your physician. There are infections that you can get, for an example impetigo that will need an antibiotic to clear up.

It would help us to help you if you mentioned what mask you are using.

Ah yes, it sounds like you are using the Breeze. Great choice. You can either try what Dreamstalker suggested, or you can not use anything and give it a few days or so, and then it will start not feeling so bad and it will eventually stop hurting altogether. Your nose needs time to get used to having these things touch it evey night. Your nares will eventually toughen up, mine did.

I've been using the Breeze failthfully every night for the past 2 months or so. In the beginning, I had the same problem. Then like I said, after awhile, the soreness just went away. Then out of the blue, it came back. I finally noticed that I had the mask adjusted such that the pillows were pressed really hard against my nares, so as not to have any leaks. Well, I adjusted them so they are not pressing against my nares like so, and soreness/irritation is completely gone. I now have very comfortable nights of sleep with this mask.

Good luck!!!
