thyroid levels change with treatment?
thyroid levels change with treatment?
I have been hypothyroid and taking Armour thyroid for many years. Had a test last week that showed I am being overtreated. The only thing that's really changed lately is using the CPAP. Has anyone experienced a change in their thyroid levels after starting CPAP treatment?

Hi Rainmom. I have been taking Synthroid for 2 years and started PAP therapy a year and a half ago. My thyroid test results have been pretty consistent throughout. It would be nice if it changed so I could stop taking the Synthroid.

Everything changes with successful XPAP treatment. Your body isn't trying to die 100 times a night, not having to jump start you many times a night changes everything;
Once you get your Sleep Apnea under control, your body tries to return to normal. Labs should level out, except for the fact we get older and have more problems every day. No cure for that, yet! Jim
For me it was Co-reg and Lipitor 80mg, doses cut in 1/2.

Now that's a question I'm interested in too. I've been on apap for 10 months, and am due for my thyroid check next month.

I have thyroid blood work yearly and it changes very little. I am on Synthoid and started it before CPAP. Never have needed a change in the dosage. Now my endo did say that if I keep losing weight I could very well need a reduction in Synthroid, but no changes related to CPAP treatment.

Re: thyroid levels change with treatment?
Untreated sleep apnea can put a terrible stress on the body - sleep deprivation, blood-oxygen desaturations, elevated cortisol levels. This stress will interfere with the normal operation of the thyroid. It is likely that successful treatment of sleep apnea will improve thyroid function.Rainmom17 wrote:I have been hypothyroid and taking Armour thyroid for many years. I started Synthroid many years before CPAP. I have not had to change my dosage after starting CPAP.

Also, our bodies do a lot of repair work while we sleep. Not only does the apnea cause problems, but it also (seems to me) interferes with our natural healing process.
