Oxygen and libido

Post by AJ » Mon Aug 28, 2017 7:02 pm

Hi, I'm new here and wanted to ask a very personal question.

Does oxygen supplementation restore the sex drive and cure vaginal dryness caused by menopause?

I know that sounds like a loaded question, not sure where else to ask it!

I went through menopause 10 yrs ago and my sex life basically ended. My husband dealt with it, suffered in silence.

My estrogen stopped and that caused loss of libido and also vaginal dryness which made sex painful anyway.

I had not even been to the OBGYN bc it hurt to put anything in there, the soreness was incredible.

I noticed an odd thing after 2 wks on CPAP with oxygen: I wake up thinking about sex!

My libido returned, my husband is shocked and pleasantly surprised, and I found my dryness disappeared.

Is this from oxygen? I began to wonder so I Googled and found that oxygen supplies the entire body with life, more or less...

which is undiagnosed OSA gradually kills our organs. I guess ALL organs need oxygen, even sexual ones, lol!

I truly thought that part of my life was gone for good. How fantastic that it returned on my 34th wedding anniversary (unfortunately

the vertigo showed up yesterday too! >:(

I just wish the vertigo would stop!

I was not aware that dryness would be improved, but certainly more 02 helps many systems to get better (you may notice your hair growing faster). So while one night may have been a fluke, and while I wouldn't get rid of e.g. the progesterone just yet, hopefully things will turn around for you long term.

Just curious - have you been having lots of soy in any form?

Yes, changes in vaginal walls/dryess/tissue elasticity noticed actually upon exam by Ob/GYN.. Long story and TMI for sure but I happened to see a OB/GYN for a problem right prior to starting cpap therapy and again about 9 months later and marked improvement to almost "normal".

Unfortunately not so much actual improvement in the libido department but that's because of a medication that I take for a health issue unrelated to sleep apea.

The vertigo thing. I have the BPPV thing but cpap hasn't made it worse. It just happens sometimes for unknown reasons.
If the vertigo persists do see a ENT specialist for the issue and discuss it with your sleep doctor.
You may have some Eustachian Tube Dysfunction issues going on. All best to be evaluated by a doctor so that you can figure the best plan to fix whatever it is causing the problem.

Thanks to all who replied!

Actually I never took anything for the libido or dryness...my OBGYN did not want to give me anything bc he was worried for my heart (I'm heavy but do not

have any heart issues based on my recent echocardiogram and chest xray that my dr ordered because she suspected it due to my OSA.)

Its not a fluke though...my drive is back and the dryness is over too. I just need to get rid of this damn vertigo!! >:(

Laying down and having sex, vertigo shouldn't bother you until you get back up.

XPAP can force air out of the ears, causing vertigo. Two out of three, better avg than I usually find. Break even is my goal fix one problem only get one new one. Jim

That thought occurred to me too...we were lying in bed all day (lol), and then I rolled around to get up and WHOA! I started screaming and freaking out and my husband

had to grab me because I was going to fall!

But that doesn't explain why it happened again this morning, and kept going all day long. At least yesterday it only happened twice (maybe to be "nice" since it was my

wedding anniversary?)

Wow...I think I finally know for sure that CPAP/oxygen is the cause of my returned libido, flattened appetite (for food), and the end of my critical attitude!

Last night, I kept waking up bc the mask was "farting" (letting out air due to poor fit). This only happened one other time, a few nights ago, and both times,

I woke up feeling irritable, hungry, and no noticeable libido. I knew something was wrong.

Sure enough, I got online and found that Respironics sent me an email saying I had a "poor mask fit" last night!

I have been losing weight due to my appetite being returned to normal due to CPAP/oxygen, so maybe my face got a little thinner and now I need a new

mask.

I started out a month ago with 150 apneas/hr on the sleep study. As of a few days being on CPAP/oxygen, its down to 0.8 AHI!

I've also been spending a lot more time in the bedroom so now I'm getting exercise too, lol...but am in pain later due to my arthritis.

If only CPAP could fix my arthritis I'd be as happy as a pig in &^%t!

4Q2

some ear things affect balance and vertigo
never heard of air pressure doing it

i have had air pressure stuck in my ears many times
so has everybody
does not cause vertigo
uncomfortable until you can swallow or it goes away on its own
All you have between your ears is air, so no wonder.

Thank God that you are probably too old to reproduce. I guess the thread on libido really was beyond you.
