One of many things that disturb me about a diagnosis of Sleep Apnea, is the Label (Low. Moderate or Severe). It gives the new patient a false idea of the level of his illness. Low tells you it doesn't matter much, you aren't that bad. Moderate, tells you, it could be worse, maybe down the road, i'll get serious about my health. Time to get the intertube out of the garage, take a little float trip paddling down De'Nile!
Then there's Severe, "DANGER, Will Robertson", time to panic!" HogWash Time to Treat!
No matter what your "Level", it DOESN"T mean if left untreated, your next event won't be your LAST, you might need that DEAD brain cell, for a important function. By not getting your treatment the best it can be, you are playing Russian Roulette, the longer you play, the more bullets are added to the chamber. Don't Play If you are dumb enough to try, make sure the gun isn't a Auto
If you are diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, any level, it time to do whatever you have to correct it. It's not a Death Sentence, unlike many problems we run into, it can be dealt with and you can live a normal life. It's only Air.
The main problem is controlling your mind, Take CAN'T out of your life, he never has done anything good for you, his friend Give Up needs to go too. With them out of the way it becomes easy. Your Brain cells will thank you. Jim

Thanks for this Jim. I have to admit that part of me wants to hear that "severe" diagnosis just to feel like I can justify to myself and the people around me that my issues are worth consideration. You are absolutely right, low, moderate or severe, treatment is not only justified but REQUIRED.

Re: When You Are Diagnosed With Sleep Apnea....
My numbers were low, due to the stupidity that quantity is the primary gauge of severity.
But nearly EVERY ONE of them was waking me up. I was a wreck;
---but luckily, completely ready to strap on and ride this bronco.

I was scored 450 events in a 3 hour period, had just went thru a quad by-pass, nailed it! JimThatGuyTyh-ish wrote:Thanks for this Jim. This is not different than any other disease. High blood pressure is bad; but how high is how bad? Diabetes is bad, but how high blood sugar is how bad?
Diseases needs to be treated without regard to severity.
BTW, I really question whether an AHI close to 5 is "OK!"

For me it's not OK, Ok is as low as I can get it and still get good sleep, that's my goal. JimD.H. wrote:This is not different than any other disease. High blood pressure is bad; but how high is how bad? Diabetes is bad, but how high blood sugar is how bad?
