At least the trucking companies are not protected from liability . . .
Civil suits have the potential to help, but there must first be HUMAN SACRIFICE.

I guess you are off the hook....You can keep being an engineer without being tested.xxyzx wrote:AP newswire
US govt has abandoned plans to test truck drivers and engineers for apnea
FRA and FMCSA said they stopped pursuing such a regulation.
It is up to RR and trucking companies whether to test people in those jobs
Mandated regulations would have required approval of congress which aint going to happen with Trump gutting excessive regulation by the govt

Re: no apnea tess will be required by government now
People were pushing for federal requirements of mandated testing if drivers fell within certain physical categories.
This doesn't really change anything once a driver has the diagnosis and it really doesn't change anything in terms of any in house policies a company wishes to set up. It doesn't mean that any truck drivers out there with sleep apnea can just throw their machines away.
All it means is that the federal government can't force someone who meets certain physical criteria to have a sleep study. Not really anything any different than what is going on now.
It does probably mean some drivers who haven't had a sleep study but maybe should...can't be forced to from a federal standpoint.
Companies are still free to set any standards they wish and the DOT can still require compliance proof once someone has the diagnosis.
Again...not really any different now when it comes to truck drivers. RR people...I have no idea what any standards are involved there but I am married to a truck driver who does keep up on all this sleep apnea regulation stuff. Not because he has sleep apnea but because it is something widely discussed and cussed among the drivers. One of the biggest gripes truck drivers had was that if this regulation at a federal level went through there wasn't any provision as to who was going to pay for the forced sleep study. They sure didn't want to pay for it out of their pocket and the government didn't want to pay..and there's a lot of trucking companies who don't or can't offer decent insurance to their drivers or if they do the deductible makes it cost prohibitive. The company my husband works for...there's a 2500 deductible before any co pay...most truck drivers don't have that kind of money laying around. I know we wouldn't.

This is based on the anti-regulation sickness that is going around! These regulations would have saved lives and money!
Everybody is very worried about North Korea, which is a valid thing to worry about! However, the likelihood of being injured or killed in an accident caused by Sleep Apnea is much greater - at least for Americans - than the danger of injury or death in a hostile exchange with North Korea.
