how old is this Bipap ST?

Post by alpha2017 » Mon Aug 07, 2017 1:35 pm

Do you know how old is this Respironics Bipap ST? In standby mode the operating hours are indicated. As indicated in the screen the operating hours are 2129 or 22129?

Furthermore, there is need for a ups in order to protect the device from a possible power failure?

It is a Respironics Bipap ST grey model.

How can I add a picture?

No way of knowing without knowing the exact model and maybe some information on the serial number sticker that on some models points to date of manufacture.

Not all the models included the date of manufacture on the sticker.
Turn the machine over and look for a little sticker (might be silver) where the serial number is and in one of the lower corners there may be an 8 digit number that is year/month/date of manufacture. Without that date there's no way to know for sure...we can estimate by knowing the exact model number though. Hours of use doesn't mean much...it could be 15 years old but not used much or it could be nearly new and used a lot recently.

As far as back up power in case of electric failure. It would take a pretty strong UPS to be able to manage the machine for any length of time. Most people here that have some sort of back up system will use some sort of a deep cycle battery for extended power outages.
I have been on cpap for over 8 years. Never once needed it. Worst thing that has ever happened was a 10 minute outage during a thunderstorm (and I live in tornado alley so we get a lot of thunderstorms)...but I have a whole house gas generator available if something prolonged happens.

You can do a forum search for "battery backup" and find lots of options and discussions.

I don't remember when they stopped making the grey model in the ST line...some of those machines in the specialty model line like the ST didn't change until the PR System One moels were released around 2011 or 2012 for some of them.
Without having the date to go by...probably at least 5 years old.

There should be a sticker with a serial number on it somewhere on the machine...if not someone has removed it or it wore off somehow.
If that's the case we assume "old" and not much we can do to figure out the age unless when you turn it on you can get to a screen that might show the serial number and I don't know that those machines ever did that.

WXRO3 works on these machines so he might know and would stand the best chance of helping you figure out what it might be so I will defer to him..
All I know to do is check the date on the sticker...if there is a date and if there is a sticker.

He can't upload a picture because he isn't a member yet...but this is the machine he is talking about.
I knew exactly which one when he said "gray".

I don't know when this model was discontinued but it was some years back.. It's an old dinosaur....at least 5 years but more like 10 to 15 in reality. It's not been available at all since I started therapy in 2009.

Just curious....why do you want to know? "It's old".

battery backup is for ventilators and life and death stuff. I think most people wake up or will just breathe through the mask. If smart start is on, it will start again when the power comes back on.

I think it is a demo device. In the upper part of the device it isn't indicated any Bipap S/T or Harmony. Respironics Harmony is also an old model? It is also a Bipap ST?

I don't know if there is more than one model of Harmony or not. I don't think so though. Only one model is shown over at the apneaboard.com list of available machine model manuals.

I did find this

The reason I ask for is because they sell us this device and I don't know if this old device is good enough in contrast with a new one. It's the same sense? What do you think?

I wouldn't want it if they gave it to me. I don't know if it recorded any useful data and if it did I am not so sure that Encore software will even work with it now. You would need a special card reader to get the data off the smart card...and that's IF it reported anything beyond hours of use. That machine is so old that most people who ever used one are long gone or moved up to a newer model.

How much do they want for this old dinosaur?
Are you on extremely limited funds without any insurance to help you out?
Do you have special needs that require this specialty machine? It's not something that is dispensed very often.
Central apnea maybe or some sort of lung disease?
