Why do u not question your investment broker?

Post by AUTOMATIC » Thu Feb 24, 2005 2:07 pm

Automatic here,
I have taken all the informative data y'all have provided and am implementing as much as possible to meet the needs of the patient. Being a repentant DME company I have vowed to listen to the people and structure our operation based on all inputs on this forum. Firstly, I have become a student and realize there is much to learn and shair. Secondly, the patient is always right. I am providing a display in the office with all of the available items in the industry so that the patient/client can look, touch, smell, taste and hear all. They will be involved with the decision making process. If they like little and blue then that is their choice. If they want big and simple then so be it. Having crunched the numbers, it may take longer to break even and turn a profit but in the long run We will be better for it and so will the patients. Any adivice on what you might want to have available in the office? Now to the question at hand. You invest in the stock market. You have an advisor who handles much of your hard earned money. Much more than that of your life saving/quality of life enhancing device costs. The broker [look at the word broke-er] makes money even if you lose. I haven't found a forum addressing this. And this effects your family, children, grands et... As a successful business man once stated... There are many good ideas out there. It is making them happen the difficult part. Look foward to hearing from all you straight and bi-pap users...AUTOMATIC

And what makes you think we don't question our brokers? I do. I usually listen to him and take his advise, but I also check other sources. If he says something that doesn't fit in with other information I've gotten, I question. If he has good logical reasons, I'll go with his suggestions. If he doesn't, I don't.
Doctors are not the only professionals I question. They're just the ones talked about on this board.

Yeah, I have to say, this is probably not a great group to be asking that of. Just like MOST people don't question their doctors (but most of us here do), most people don't question MOST people in positions of authority, but we probably do.

I question everything. I want to understand anything that's going to affect me, my family or our property.

Liam, over protective father of 4.5.

Sounds like you are on your way to providing a good service... There have been a number of suggestions on how to do it right, look up Rested Gal's posts, she has said it in a number of them...

As to questioning authority. Doctors are the sum of their knowledge plus their ego. Unfortunately a lot of them rely on their ego instead of their knowledge.

The same has been said of DME's...

I am my own broker. I do my own thinking and pay attention, which has worked out nicely in CPAP and in the market.

At $7 a trade, who needs a broker?

I hear you loud and clear. Most of y'all stand a cut above the crowd. You are individuals, thinkers and problem solvers. Hopefully more people like you will stand up and be counted. We are not about the masses but about the individual. Again it is a privilege to sound and receive on this forum. Cannot wait to share success stories and how you helped facilitate....AUTOMATIC
ps It don't hurt to ask why and it is easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission.

answer to hypothetical question

Post by tomjax » Thu Feb 24, 2005 8:43 pm

This is not fair and without context, it cannot be properly answered.
Many times a person in authority can give an answer that if taken out of context can be highly misleading and meaningless.

A person must know the dynamics of the person asking the question and use all his/her experience in answering.

There is no way to tell if this is proper or not.
Gotta have more facts and context.
