I guess it just worries me that the AHI is apparently so high while I'm asleep. Like, if I crop that report above to just include times when I'm asleep, the AHI is about 55-60. My sleep study (without any machine) was 15. Is it normal that your AHI is higher than your baseline, let alone that much higher, when using CPAP at the wrong pressure?

Seiru,

What's the longest time you've kept the mask on while trying to get some sleep with it? If you are only using the machine for a couple of hours each night (as it looks like) and you are awake for significant chunks of the time when the mask is on, you're looking at "ratty data". Some of the events being scored may have occurred when you were awake. Some of them may have occurred just as you were starting to drift off to sleep---in particular, it's perfectly normal to have a CA or two in the transition to sleep. But since you are not yet sleeping with the machine, it's hard to figure out whether it's doing its job of preventing your apneas and hypopneas from occurring.

As an experiment I would suggest that you try using the machine for an hour or two while you are watching tv or reading a book. You need to be doing something while you're awake and using the machine so that you are NOT concentrating on your breathing, but rather that you are concentrating on what you are doing. Then look at the wake breathing pattern and see whether the machine scored a lot of "events" simply because your wake breathing is not as stable as your sleep breathing is.

Thanks for the response,

Actually, the past few nights at 9-20 pressure, I've noticed that I'll sleep for an hour or more with no apnea events. It's like a switch was flipped, or something. Now I'm just going through the whole "keep the mask on if you wake up half asleep" thing.

But apparently, it's working? Keeping my fingers crossed.
