Intellipap 2 poor mask fit stats

Post by sbradley » Thu Jun 15, 2017 8:41 pm

Diving deeper into the data from my new machine using SmartLink, AHI is great (0.3 to 1.3), but I get widely varying % poor mask fit numbers from night to night, varying from 6% to 41% per night. The leakage numbers aren't all that much higher when it flags poor mask fit.
Anyone else run into this, and if so, what did you try? How much of a concern is it?
As an experiment I will try tightening my straps tonight and see if it makes a difference.

6% of the night in large leak I wouldn't worry so much about but over 40% I would want to do something about if I was seeing it very often.

My own personal number for large leak..around 10 % but I also look to see how deep into large leak territory I went. Barely into large leak territory probably doesn't impact things all that much but deep into large leak territory will.
On a very rare occasion I might go over 10% but it's rare and when I do it's usually not a surprise...like a new mask that I am trying and still working on optimal fitting.
Or if it stays higher for several nights in a row I look at the headgear to see if it is stretched out maybe.

==========

I only care about how i feel
how low the o2 went and for how long
and how high my heartrate went

the others are just surrogate statistics for bureaucrats and a rough guide for doctors to see how well things might be going

if my ahi were that low i would not care about leaks or other incidental data
You are incorrect about mask leaks not being an issue.

http://www.sleep-apnea-guide.com/cpap-mask-leak.html

""significant CPAP mask leak may exceed your CPAP ability to maintain the prescribed pressure, may impair the machine's sensors ability to detect what's going on, and may thereby prevent an CPAP's algorithms from properly responding to whatever is going on,""

As a result, a reporting of a low AHI is meaningless if the leaks are significant.

To the OP, please go by what Pugsy has advised regarding leaks. Her post is right on target regarding this issue.

Thank you.
