Need humidifier help!!!!

2nd night on the machine in my updated profile. My humidifier is has not worked. I need direction. The under setup the dial gives to choices "fixed or adaptive". I do not have a heated hose. The dial had been set on adaptive for the last two nights. Should the dial be set on "fixed". When I start the machine then I can turn the humidifier temp setting, it was set on 2. I see no other adjustments. The resp therapist seemed like he might not be too familiar with my machine. Please advise.

You need to get the clinical/provider manual for your machine.
Go here and request one via email. It explains the features very well along with some other useful stuff including what adaptive and fixed means.
And how to get to other adjustment features or turn it on so you will see other humidification setting options.

Short version...fixed will give you a constant heat to the water chamber.
Adapative....will give variable heat and takes in to account ambient conditions in an effort to reduce any condensation issues. Not sure how that works in all honesty. A setting of 2 is relatively low (and what comes from the factory as the default). I suspect that between the low setting and whatever your ambient bedroom temperature is the machine hasn't sensed the need to warm up much.
The heat is going to vary though...if it warms up initially...it is working then it will cycle on and off throughout the night.
Minimal humidity will be delivered this way...very minimal.

Heated hose...the machine will sense if a heated hose is attached and will automatically convert to the heated hose humidification system.

Fixed with the constant heat is going to deliver the most humidity of the 2 choices available when a heated hose isn't attached...it's still a relatively low setting though.

Thank you Pugsy!! The first morning I woke up and I began wondering later if the humidifer was working because it required almost no water. This morning I woke up and immediately felt the bottom of the humidifier and it was room temp.

You have helped me once again and I appreciate it so much. I have such a time with the DME I was dreading calling them and asking them for advice cause I know they are very mixed up about a lot of stuff. I know I am not much better, but, anyway that is how it is.

To see if it's working, take it off adaptive mode and set it to max. You might get rainout, but at least that will prove (or disprove) that the unit is functional. If you get rainout and/or the water level drops significantly, it's working! Otherwise, it likely isn't!

Thanks for the help, to those that responded. Pugsy I have sent off for the clinician setup. After I changed it to fixed I was able to determine that it was working this morning, so, crisis over for now.
I sure do like my new machine. It is much more quiet than my old machine. Very nice and comforting feeling with this machine. Looking forward to getting the clinician manual so I can get it there and look around and see how he has it set.

Buy a cheap humidity gauge. When the humidity is high turn down the setting and visa versa. After a while you get a feel what is a good setting for how humid the air is at the time. I always tell patients to adjust the humidity based on how you feel and don't pay attention to how much water you use. Nose wet - turn it down, Dry - turn it up. The auto humidity setting is nice but it isn't for everybody.
