Insight on Swift and Leaks

Post by Snoozin' Bluezzz » Mon Nov 27, 2006 9:49 am

Just an FYI to folks out there. I have been using the same Swift Headgear for about 10 months and the same Swift barrel and related parts for about 6 months. Recently my leak rate began climbing and didn't seem fixable. I swapped out the entire setup for new and leaks dropped to absolutely normal. To me it appears that the silicone seems to lose a degree of necessary elasticity therefore flex making for leak problems and/or the headgear wasn't holding well. I know, I shouldn't have changed two variables, but my leak rate is now back where it should be. If any of you are having leak problems with the passing of time you might want to investigate replacing the headgear and/or barrel of your Swift.

Soonzin' if you haven't thrown out your old Swift, do you mind participating in an experimnet?
Try soaking your old swift in 1 part vinegar to 3 part water overnight. I does wonders for my nasal pillows. And I remember it helped other leaky Swifts too.

No, I haven't thrown it out. Certainly, I'll give the soaking a shot. If it can extend the life that would be good. The new headgear/barrel reduced leaks to essentially zero, over the last 4 days, which I found amazing. When I used the new barrel (after a vinegar soak and good cleaning) the pillows felt slighly tacky and really sealed very well.
